The Muppets is still living in troubled waters. The show is going to have a new creative direction soon and it's better like this, because these latest episodes were not exceptional, at all. These 10 episodes in fact received mixed reviews and the audience has gradually abandoned the show. But what’s going on in the narrative universe of the show?
In the fall finale Sing All the Way, Miss Piggy and the gang are getting ready for the Holiday season. The network requires an holiday special, and they all work for it with an unexpected helper.
Mindy Kaling is the special and funny guest star of the episode. Kermit and Scooter work to create a new musical piece after hearing Mindy sing during rehearsal. Meanwhile Becky breaks up with Fozzie and consequently Miss Piggy reflects about her relationship with Kermit. Along with Mindy Kaling, Echosmith are part of this christmas-themed installment. In the previous episode Going, Going, Gonzo, the Muppets made room for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, that performed a musical number with Miss Piggy. Dave Grohl later also performed on the show.
These latest episodes were mildly entertaining. As I already said, I am totally in love with Mindy Kaling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (He made as well an appearance on The Mindy Project show's fourth season), so I did enjoy their cameo appearance. I still believe the writers need to integrate more these guest stars inside the show. It’s all too cringed, to be fully convincing.
All in all, this first half of the season was a mixed bag. It’s not ABC’s best comedy, but it’s still a decent and funny show. The last 6 episodes need to strengthen the show’s weaknesses or The Muppets won’t likely survive. Will six episodes be enough to restore viewers' faith in the show? Will ABC renew it, no matter what? It's not an easy call.
What do you think of The Muppets’ first half of the season?
