    WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2016
    Metered Markets

    Rating/Share
    CBS: 5.1 rating/8 share, Fox: 4.9/ 8, NBC: 3.2/ 5, ABC: 2.9/ 5, CW: 1.6/ 2

Percent Change From the Year-Ago Evening:
    NBC: +23, CW: no change, ABC: – 3, CBS: -14, Fox: -38

    Ratings Breakdown:
CBS took top-rated Wednesday overnight honors care of its combination of “2 Broke Girls” (#2: 4.3 rating/7 share at 8 p.m.), soon-to-conclude “Mike & Molly” (#2: 4.5/ 7 at 8:30 p.m.), “Criminal Minds” (#1: 6.0/ 10 at 9 p.m.) and freshman drama “Code Black” (#1: 4.9/ 9 at 10 p.m.). With 82 percent overnight retention out of “Criminal Minds,” “Code Black” is definitely in contention for a second season renewal.

Keep in mind that NBC was in all repeats last night with its drama line-up of “The Mysteries of Laura” (#3: 3.4/ 5), “Law & Order: SVU” (#2t: 3.1/ 5) and “Chicago PD” (#2t: 3.1/ 5). ABC was in encores from 8-10 p.m. as well care of sitcoms “The Middle” (#4: 3.3/ 7), “The Goldbergs” (#4: 2.7/ 4), “Modern Family” (#2: 3.4/ 5) and “black-ish” (#3t, 2.8/ 5). And that did not bode well for struggling sophomore “American Crime” at 10 p.m., which dipped to third at a 2.7/ 5 at 10 p.m. Quality, unfortunately, is not always synonymous with mass audience interest.

Top-rated for the evening was this final season of “American Idol” on Fox, which at a 6.7/11 in the household overnights in the 8 p.m. hour was 15 percent below the 7.9/12 on the year-ago evening. Next on Fox was tired “Hell’s Kitchen” which dipped to a fourth-place 2.9/ 5 at 9 p.m.

The CW capped off the night with the pairing of dramas “Arrow” (#5: 1.9/ 5) and veteran “Supernatural” (#5: 1.2/ 2), which were both on par from one week earlier.

  • About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

If you are new to ratings or still confused, we recommend you read this excellent
    Ratings FAQ.
