Outsiders - Doomsayer - Advance Preview: “Find Your Place”

The premiere beautifully setup the premise of the show but it was a bit of a slow burn as the story was established. This second episode picks up the pace and gets into the gritty and brutal lives of these characters. In the scheme of the first episodes this story has a very natural build up and this second episode takes the next steps by further building up the way life is lived on the mountain. We get more insight into how matters are dealt with and how conflicts are resolved.

The conflict between Asa and Big Foster comes to a head as Asa catches the blame for the string of bad luck that has befallen the mountain since he returned. In order to stay with his people and aid them in the trials ahead he must first prove to them he is worthy to live amongst them again. With very few welcoming faces he finds himself very isolated as his fate is placed in the hands of the very people who have shunned him after his time spent in the world below. Look for G’Win to take an interesting stand regarding Asa. And look for Asa to gain some unexpected allies in his fight to be accepted back home.

Little Foster struggles to prove himself worthy as Big Foster’s son. With G’Win supporting him Little Foster will go to extremes to prove to his father how strong he is. The results of this quest don’t go quite according to plan. Little Foster is a good man and I hope G’Win can keep him that way because the mountain does not need another Big Foster to deal with given all the other problems they currently have to deal with.

Wade is put in a bad position when the Sheriff tasks him to link the moonshine that was sold in the premiere to the mountain. What he ends up doing will surprise many and setup some interesting story points going forward. The Sheriff wants to take down the mountain and this quest of his surely won’t end well for anyone.

Hasil’s infatuation with Sally-Ann wasn’t a one off deal and he continues to go to some extreme lengths to get her attention. Even after his punishment from the premiere she is still his main focus. Sally-Ann is a smart woman and she’s going to make Hasil work for a chance to be with her yet this week he starts to get to her in unexpected ways. They come from drastically different worlds and have a lot to teach one another should they become a couple. One of the things Sally-Ann has to teach Hasil about is Katy Perry. Yes, you read that right, but I'll let you watch the episode to get the context for how that comes into the conversation. This is my favorite coupling on the show and I can’t wait to watch it evolve. Hasil is a determined man and he’ll do whatever is necessary to be the kind of man that Sally-Ann wants him to be even though I predict he will fail before he succeeds.

So much happens in this episode and I wish I could tease it all but I want you to enjoy this episode and all the twists and turns it has to offer. This episode is about everyone trying to find their place in the world they inhabit. Some have better luck at it than others and some flat out fail. This is an amazing episode that sets up a lot of ongoing storylines and it can’t be missed.

Tune in to WGN America at 9/8c on Monday, February 1st to experience this episode. It is one you will not want to miss.
