HBO has given a series order to Crashing, its single-camera comedy pilot directed by comedy powerhouse Judd Apatow and starring comedian Pete Holmes. Written by Holmes, the semi-autobiographical project centers on a sweet, wholesome comedian (Holmes) who, after his wife leaves him, has nowhere to stay but on the couches of New York’s finest comics. Apatow and Holmes executive produce, with Holmes’ manager Dave Rath serving as a producer alongside Josh Church (Trainwreck) and Igor Srubshchik (Girls), while Oren Brimer (The Pete Holmes Show) is a co-producer. Like the pilot, the series, on which Holmes would be the only regular, is scheduled to film in New York.
