Z Nation - All Good Things Must Come To An End - Season Finale Review

Team Bite Mark finally made it to their destination. Unfortunately, nothing comes easy in Z Nation.

'All Good Things Must Come to an End' kicked off with a Mexican standoff. Shortly after arriving at the bar, the group finds themselves in a confrontation with a bunch of bounty hunters who also claim they have The Murphy. The team quickly dispatches of them with the help of Murphy's powers, but not without 10K getting seriously injured.

To add to that, Gina Gershon returns as La Reina and her Zeroes wreak havoc on the bar the team is hiding out at. Escorpion, who somehow survived the zombie pits, comes to the rescue and kills his former queen. Escorpion seems to be on a path of redemption, which is quite a sudden turn of events for his character, and he seems to have joined the team after Vasquez decides not to kill him. It will be interesting to see how his character arc unfolds next season as I don't see how he can ever fit on the team.

The finale gave us some interesting developments to set up next season. It is revealed that Auntie is indeed working with the "good guys" as she calls up the military who are residing undersea in a submarine. Auntie by the way turned out to be one crazy mofo, and it was sad to see her bite the dust so easily.

After some heartwarming goodbyes with his travel mates, Murphy and the injured 10K enter the sub. The general of this military group reveals to Murphy that Zona, as mentioned in 'Rozwell,' is a real place. Scully, the pilot of that UFO was supposed to bring some ship back to Zona and it is there where the first batch of the antidote will be used. So, apparently what was thought to be a throwaway, filler episode ended up to be important to the main narrative, which is great to see. Now, as the general mentioned, some kind of new world order is about to begin.

The finale ends with Murphy blowing up the sub and turning these military guys, as well as the returning Dr. Merch, into zombies so he can control them. The team sees him speeding away from the destruction on a lifeboat with his new friends. Moreover, 10K survives surgery, but his fate is left up in the air as we do not see him escaping the sub.

We then get the first of two cliffhangers as a squad of armed soldiers appear out of nowhere and surround our unfortunate survivors. Elsewhere, Citizen Z ditches his artic post and before he freezes to death he comes across a mysterious stranger. Oh, and also, the show ends with a fun little scene showing a zombie girl, most likely Murphy's daughter, playing tea time with two Z's.

Overall, I found this finale to be fun, but it lacked tension. Most of it has to do with the fact that I don't see anyone on Team Bite Mark meeting their demise, each individual adds something unique to the show. This was unlike last season's finale when we had expendable characters in Cassandra and Mack, who not surprisingly saw their arc end earlier this season. Nonetheless it was still fun to see the team working together to get themselves out of one bad situation to another.

The season as a whole was an improvement over last season. The first three episodes especially were quite memorable and really stepped things up a notch to that tense Walking Dead level. Throughout the course of this season we got a zombie museum featuring George R.R. Martin, a zombie birth complete with the three wise men and a stable, and some zombie strippers - only on Z Nation. We now conclude with some interesting developments and cliffhangers. It will be interesting not only to see how they are resolved in season 3, but how will they step up the craziness that was set so high over these past 15 episodes.

What did you guys think of this finale? Do you agree that this season was a step-up from last season? What were some of your favourite moments from this season? Leave your comment below!
