Unforgettable - Gut Check - Review

AL Reviews UnforgettableNow and again every show does an episode where the show hits the road. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t! With this special episode, entitled Gut Check, Carrie and Al hit the road to Miami in order to safely deliver a key witness back to testify in court. This worked wonderfully. I thought this episode was a funny and unique episode, and it kept things fresh. With Racheal Dratch guest appearing as the key witness there was no shortage of comical moments.
What I really enjoyed about this episode was that the main focus was on Al and Carrie. There wasn’t too much going on with the others. At some point, we’ll want to know more about the new guy, Denny and the new M.E. Delina. But it’s important that we get a good amount of screen time with the two that made us fall in love with the show in the first place. Especially where Al and Carrie are the only two original characters from the show’s beginning. Like I mentioned already, the episode was fun. It was nice and light. I loved that the case in this episode had them out of the office and even out of New York. With many scenes of those two driving we got to hear them reminisce a lot about their past. I’m taking this a sign that they’re not reverting back to the way they were last season.
In my last review I had mentioned that I was happy to see Elliot on the show still, sadly I had spoke too soon. He flew to Miami at the end of the episode to inform Carrie and Al that he was accepting a job with the FBI. I’m disappointed that he’s leaving the Unit and will no longer be on the show. I thought Elliot was a great character and provided a nice balance to the show. Hopefully, his replacement won’t mess up the team’s dynamic!
Though I did very much enjoy this episode and thought it was much better then the previous, there were a few things that I didn’t care for. Well, mainly one thing that I thought was too repetitive and tiring. Carrie has an amazing memory and we all know that! That’s one of my favourite things about this show but I found it a little excessive when we got to the eighth or ninth time of her recalling a date to list the major events of that day. If they could lessen the amount of times that happens that would make me happy! Less is more!
Now I can’t end this review without mentioning the almost kiss that happened between Al and Carrie. We’ve seen them do this dance for a couple of seasons now and I’m wondering how much longer the writers will keep it up. Since the show has been cancelled in the past I would hope that they might move the relationship forward or at least stop teasing it so much. Maybe that’s the thing that would help Unforgettable to get renewed for another season. What do you think? Should they develop that storyline more or would that put you off from watching?
