After a small Thanksgiving break, The Originals was back this week with its penultimate episode of the year. While Elijah, Hayley and Freya held Tristan captive, Aurora was holding Cami hostage. Klaus saved her and also got half of the coordinates that lead to Rebekah’s location from Aurora. The Strix came to free Tristan, successfully so, while Marcel decided to play on both teams. He fake-stabbed Elijah and saved Hayley and Freya, while still helping Tristan and the Strix. At the end of the episode, Klaus and Elijah have everything they need to find Rebekah. Lucien comforts Aurora, while Hayley stands up to Mary. Freya decides to contact Finn.
Least favorite character: Just when I thought my opinion of Aya couldn’t get any worse. She goes after Freya. I can understand why Tristan, Aurora and Lucien would want revenge on the Originals after what they went through. But I can’t for the life of me figure out what Aya’s motivation is. No one is that cold without a reason. So the writers need to either give her one hell of a backstory or kill her off.
Best relationship: I was really impressed with the scenes between Klaus and Cami. I don’t ship them, but I definitely like them a whole lot better after this week’s episode. I like Klaus when he’s around Cami and I wish he would be that version of himself around his family as well. For some reason he doesn’t have as much trouble being himself without putting up walls, like he does with his siblings. And I think that’s kind of sad. Once again, Cami impressed me. She stood her own against Aurora and even managed to kill one of those newbie vampires. If the guy hadn’t fallen right on top of her, I think she would’ve had a chance. Finding out her motivation for becoming a therapist, and what she did to that guy, made me see her in a whole new light. And I mean that in a good way. I like that she has some darkness in her. If the writers keep this up, she could become one of my favorite characters by the end of the season.
Favorite character: I liked that Hayley stood up to Mary. Yes, the wolves are her family but so are the Originals. And that is something that Jackson refuses to accept. I won’t get into this again, I already shared my opinion about their fight two weeks ago. But I fully agree with what Hayley said about protecting the people you care about. She may have gone through a lot of crap because of the Mikaelsons but they’re Hope’s family which makes them hers as well. How would Hope feel if when she’s all grown up she found out that her mother hadn’t helped her family even though she could have. What I did dislike this week is that she said a bad word in front of Hope. Honestly Hayley, you wouldn’t want that to be her first word, now would you.
Death prediction: So, next week is the mid-season finale which usually means heads will roll. So I figured I’d make some death predictions. Now I feel like it could be one of the next three people. First up is Aurora. After what happened this week she has completely outlived her usefulness. Klaus even said so himself. So she’s definitely a good candidate. However, I hope this will not be the case. I think there is still potential in her for a good storyline, but she’ll have to find some sort of leverage next week because I doubt Klaus or Elijah will let her live much longer. Next up is Tristan. Honestly, I find his character pretty pointless. From what we saw this week, his leverage is no longer relevant. Klaus and Elijah can find Rebekah without his part of the coordinates. Aya seems more than ready to take over as leader of the Strix. So I doubt he’ll live much longer. Which brings me to Aya. If Tristan does make it out of next week’s episode alive, perhaps Aya will bite the dust instead. I have a feeling Rebekah will want some payback, Freya as well. At first I thought there might be a romance in the works with her and Marcel, but after this week it doesn’t seem likely. If I had to pick the one I want gone the most, I’d have to go with Tristan.
Best quotes: Hayley: “I’m doing a lot better than the other guy.”
Elijah: “The very moment we have our sister once again, Tristan and Aurora no longer have any leverage whatsoever and we are free to deal with them however we choose. I recommend something delightfully gruesome.”
Freya: “Finn, my brother. I believe it’s time we had a talk.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again next week for an all new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
