Scene Of The Week - December 6, 2015 + POLL

6 Dec 2015

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

ARROW, "Legends of Yesterday", December 2, 2015, Actors: Grant Gustin and more
The Scene: Barry travels through time while everyone else dies

CODE BLACK, "Cardiac Support", December 2, 2015, Actors: Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, The Scene: Leanne saves Jesse
Aimee Hicks:
Leanne “Daddy” saves Jesse “Momma” by stopping his heart to reboot it. Marcia and Luis have amazing chemistry that brings the unbreakable friendship between Leanne and Jesse to life every week. They rely on each other and Leanne needs Jesse more than any other person in her life. He has been by her side through some horrific events and has never wavered in his love and loyalty for her. The moment was tense and the Marcia did a phenomenal job balancing Leanne’s anxiety with her desire to be the best doctor possible to save her best friend. Powerful performances delivered by everyone in the scene.

DOCTOR WHO, "Hell Bent", December 5, 2015, Actors: Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, The Scene: The Doctor loses his memories of Clara
Justyna K:
It was great to see Clara back. I wasn't exactly happy with the way she died so it's nice to know she has a little more time before she has to leave for good. In fact, she has all the time in the universe ahead of her, because despite being frozen in time she found herself travelling in her own stolen TARDIS. Who would have thought? I was looking for a scene I could choose, so many great, emotional ones (on Gallifrey!), but it's the long goodbye between the Doctor and Clara, I had to go with in the end. It turns out these two together are actually quite a dangerous and powerful connection, and simply couldn't continue with their adventures. They couldn't let go of each other, so in the end the Doctor and Clara realized one of them has to go and disappear from the other one's life. And it had to be the Doctor, so tired of losing people, this time, he had to forget about his closest friend. It was both truly beautiful and sad. Like so many of the things these two have been through. I'm gonna miss the friendship between Clara and Twelve. They've been brilliant together! So glad to see the Doctor finding his way back to himself (and new screwdriver!) in the end. Great finale to the fantastic season. Kudos! Can't wait for Christmas and Twelve with River!

FARGO, "Loplop", November 30, 2015, Actors: Zahn McClarnon, Jeffrey Donovan
The Scene: Hanzee kills Dodd (picked by DarkUFO & Darth Locke)

INTO THE BADLANDS, "White Stork Spreads Wings", November 29, 2015, Actors: Emily Beecham, Marton Csokas, The Scene: The Widow fights Quinn (picked by Darth Locke)

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "Closure", December 1, 2015, Actors: Clark Gregg and more, The Scene: Coulson jumps through the portal
Justyna K:
As always, there are so many brilliant scenes on the show, it's impossible to choose just one. I really enjoyed getting to know Ward's brother and what he said might just be one of my favorite quotes in the series. Also, Fitz and Simmons with their heartbreaking and heartwarming confessions, so brilliantly done by both actors, have a way of stealing the episode for me. This time however, the scene I really wanted to include the most in the article is the ending with Fitz, Ward and Coulson going through the portal. The insanity, shock, the action, music - all the little things worked out perfectly in that moment and I can't wait to see where it's all going from here. The fight between Coulson and Ward took a drastic turn this week and Phil's decision to jump through the portal, just as it was closing, speaks volumes about the state he's currently in. And the fact that Hunter was going to join him only adds to the the rush and emotions the scene was filled with. Also, Bobbi's look there as everything goes down at once, was a great touch. Now with both Fitz and Coulson on a different planet, I can't help but feel excited and terrified about the upcoming fall finale. Kudos to cast & crew for all their fantastic work on the show!

QUANTICO, "Guilty", November 29, 2015, Actors: Josh Hopkins and more, The Scene: The team convinces Liam that Alex is not guilty
A Dahne:
The team convinces Liam that Alex is not guilty and he saves Booth and her. What I like best about Quantico is the teamwork they show in the training sessions. Now the modern day terrorist plot has caught up to that spirit. By having everyone now on Team Alex and to have Natalie be the most persuasive is a huge hurdle to cross over. I look forward to seeing how fast the plot can move now that they are all a team again.

SAVING HOPE, "Emotional Rescue", December 3, 2015, Actors: Julia Taylor Ross, Stacey Farber, The Scene: Sydney visits Maggie in the ICU
Aimee Hicks:
Because of Stacey’s schedule the relationship between Sydney and Maggie wasn’t able to be continued in the early part of Season 4 which was a shame because these actresses have amazing chemistry. Thankfully this episode brought Sydney back to Hope Zion in time to watch over Maggie who was seriously injured in a bombing and left fighting for her life. It is quite obvious she still has feelings for Maggie and that is displayed many times throughout the episode as she stands vigil over her. When Sydney enters Maggie’s room you can see relief and hesitation written all over her face. She’s happy that Maggie survived, but uncertain of how their reunion will go. Whatever happened between these two during the 9 month jump between seasons definitely left an impact on her. For Maggie’s part she is relieved that Sydney is with her and not even almost dying could stop the smile from spreading across her face when she saw Sydney. Julia and Stacey have an ease with each other that translates beautifully into their characters. The “stay” hand grab at the end was beautiful symbolism for these two and the complicated feelings they have for each other. Everything indicates that Sydney will only stick around for a short time, but if the show gets picked up for another season they would benefit from securing Stacey as a regular and properly exploring this pairing.

SUPERGIRL, "Red Faced", November 30, 2015, Actors: Melissa Benoist, Iddo Goldberg, The Scene: Supergirl destroys Red Tornado
Aimee Hicks:
Supergirl unleashes a super charged solar flare blast on Red Tornado and in an emotional power surge destroys him. There were a lot of extraordinary scenes in this episode, but this moment was a true standout. Actors are asked to commit their bodies to all sorts of situations and sometimes they can sell the moment and sometimes they can't. The bulk of this scene had no dialogue and relied on Melissa using her body to convey what Kara was experiencing and Melissa not only sold Kara's emotional turmoil, but she also sold the pain being caused to Kara as the power surged through her. The veins were popping in her neck and face and she had her fists clenched so tightly you could see her knuckles turning white. The collapse at the end was scripted, but the relief that Melissa brought to Kara seemed like her own relief seeping through. She committed to the moment and gave her body over to her craft for our entertainment. Aided by an amazing musical score this was a defining moment for Kara in her journey to being the best hero possible and it was a glorious moment for Melissa who performed at a peak level and left everyone watching in complete awe of her talent.

SUPERNATURAL, "Just My Imagination", December 2, 2015, Actors: Jared Padalecki, Nate Torrence, The Scene: Sam and Sully give each other pep talks
A Dahne:
Sam pep talks Sully and Sully pep talks Sam back. There are few shows that can actually make an episode about childhood imaginary friends work, much less give it this much heart. I love how Sam reminds Sully that heroes sometime lose and how Sully listened as Sam talked through his fears about the cage.

THE AFFAIR, "209", November 29, 2015, Actors: Dominic West, Julia Goldani Telles
The Scene: Noah freaks out after seeing Whitney at the party (picked by Darth Locke)

THE LEFTOVERS, "Ten Thirteen", November 29, 2015, Actors: Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston
The Scenes: Meg arrives to Miracle and talks to Matt & Girls revealed to be in the bus
Francesco B:
Meg's arrival to Miracle and the dialogue with Matt - Liv Tyler nailed it. Ten Thirteen was Meg's journey to the dark side, and it was really intense. Just another great episode of this amazing second season.
DarkUFO: Girls revealed to be in the bus.

THE LIBRARIANS, "And the Infernal Contract", November 29, 2015, Actors: Rebecca Romijn and more
The Scene: Baird outplots the demon and saves the day
A Dahne:
They tend to push Baird as the bodyguard so it was nice to see her using her brains to outsmart a villain that the geniuses she protects couldn't.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Start to Finish", November 29, 2015, Actors: Melissa McBride, Lennie James
The Scene: Morgan and Carol fight (picked by DarkUFO)
