-Ratings Breakdown:
Minus “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC in the competitive mix, it was a clear Monday overnight victory for NBC. Comparably, NBC bested No. 2 CBS by a hefty 53 percent. And it featured two more hours of “The Voice” (#1 for the night: 8.2 rating/13 share in households from 8-10 p.m.) into the two episode series premiere/preview of workplace sitcom “Superstore.” “Superstore,” which will debut in the Monday 8 p.m. half-hour on Jan. 4, opened with a dominant 4.9/ 8 in the 10 p.m. half-hour, which held 60 percent of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (8.1/12). And the second episode scored a second-place 3.6/ 6 at 10:30 p.m. While NBC did manage to get “Superstore” sampled, minus the lead-in support from “The Voice” in January do not expect much.
Next Monday, NBC will feature the two episode series premiere/preview of Eva Longoria sitcom “Telenovela” out of “The Voice.” “Telenovela” will air out of “Superstore” in the Monday 8:30 p.m. half-hour beginning in January.
In the specials department last night was “It’s Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown” on ABC, which scored a third-place 4.5/ 7 in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m. (and should resonate in all the key young adult demographics). Next was the annual airing of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at a 4.6/ 7 from 9-10 p.m. (#2), followed by the series-premiere of “The Great Holiday Baking Show” at a last-place 3.1/ 5 at 10 p.m.
Over at CBS, “Supergirl,” which received an order for seven additional episodes in this first season, opened with a 4.9/ 8 at 8 p.m. (#2). Comparably, that was 11 percent above the 4.4/ 7 one week earlier (and that translated into 7.19 million viewers and a 1.5 rating/5 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data).
Next on the Eye net were encore telecasts of “Scorpion” (#3: 4.2/ 6) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#2: 4.4/ 8) from 9-11 p.m.
In series-finale news, Fox’s freshman “Minority Report” earned its cancellation stripes with a 1.4/ 2 at 9 p.m. (#4). Lead-in “Gotham” scored a 3.1/ 5 from 8-9 p.m. (#4), which trailed competing “Supergirl” on CBS by 37 percent.
Last, and very least was The CW’s pairing of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and a repeat of special “Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown,” which each scored a 0.7/ 1.
