Ash vs Evil Dead - Fire in the Hole - Review: Ash vs The Militia
14 Dec 2015
Ash vs Evil Dead JH ReviewsThe Team arrives at the militia stronghold Ash’s buddy Lem told him about. The moment they arrive, they discover bodies of militia men who have been torn apart by Lem, who was killed in last week’s episode and is now a Deadite.
The leader of the militia demands Ash tell him what is happening, but the moment Ash answers the question the militia leader ignores him in favor of a more acceptable explanation: the Government sprayed some airborne virus that turned Lem into a zombie.
Unfortunately, they also decide that Ash is from the Government and therefore a bad guy. They took Ash’s boomstick! Lem attacks again. Ash and the gang try to use the distraction to escape. It works for Pablo and Kelly, but Ash and Amanda are captured and shoved into the underground bunker.
Pablo is trying to figure out what his weapon of choice should be. Seems fair. Ash has the chainsaw and boomstick. Kelly wants a flamethrower. Amanda has her gun. I kind of hope Pablo will choose magic. (I got my wish with Ash’s hand; I figure it doesn’t hurt to toss my wish out there.)
Pablo and Kelly were doing pretty good until they got caught. Another Deadite attack affords them an opportunity to escape and Kelly comes up with a plan; an extremely gross plan, but one that turns out to be successful.
I am loving the new hand! It has a light that Ash and Amanda use to negotiate their way through the darker sections of the bunker. Now that Amanda has joined up with Ash, she’s much more chill. Everything about the actress’ portrayal of Amanda has changed. I liked the playful banter between her and Ash.
Deadite Lem seems to have them trapped, but they manage to turn the tables and take him down. When they emerge, they find all of the living militia guys chained to a fence.
Their next stop is the cabin where it all began. Ash takes a moment to make sure they all know he appreciates them. When they turn around to ask Ash where the cabin is, he’s gone. It’s kind of sweet really. Ash bailed to protect them.
Here’s the thing about putting a show on STARZ! When someone goes into a fire and rises up out of the ashes fully intact, their clothes are gone; not burned at the edges like on broadcast TV: Gone. It was a great way for Ruby to return to the canvas.
Ruby is back on the trail, without Ash’s hand to guide her I’m not sure how fast she’ll catch up, but she’s back in the game. Where is Ash’s hand, you ask? It’s beat everyone to the cabin where it all began. I can’t wait for next week.
Miscellaneous:
The bomb thrower is NOT Pablo’s weapon of choice. He ends up with a handgun. Personally, I don’t think that’s his best option.
Another fun episode: I still wish we were getting more of Ruby’s story but I am more interested in what’s going on there now that she’s been labeled a backstabber….by The Evil. I love watching Kelley and Pablo work together. I am a little sorry that Ash took off just as Amanda joined the team. I was finally starting to warm up to her.
What did you guys think of the episode?
