And Then There Were None - Episode Two - Advance Preview, Dialogue Teasers + Promotional Photos

One of the crucial advantages this three part adaptation has over some of its predecessors is the time it has available to dedicate to the characters and their back stories. Christie was extremely adept when it came to examining human psychology and behaviour, which leaps off the page when you read one of her novels. When it comes to transferring that to a visual medium, some of that can unfortunately become lost when the story is condensed in order to fit a shorter run time.

And Then There Were None’s characters are a complex lot, with not all of them willing to tell the truth at times, therefore it’s important that the audience are able to discern their true nature. Or at least attempt to, some of them are very skilled in their deception after all. In the opening episode we have already learned a great deal about the ten unwilling guests on Soldier Island, and there will be more details to come over the following two hours. The flashbacks are a device that will become ever more beneficial in giving us clues that will help solve the mystery and work out who is behind the killings.

Thus far the first two lines of the poem, or doggerel as Miss Brent insisted on classifying it, have been carried out, without causing too much alarm. This is all about to change however, as the second episode kicks off with Vera being paranoid about the disappearing jade figurines from the table centre piece, which in turn causes the rest of the party to turn in on itself as suspicion and accusations start flying.

Yet nothing deters the murderer from his grim task, although the next couple of victims are not dispatched quite as neatly as the previous two. Once their rather bloody and battered bodies are discovered the tension shifts up a gear and the remaining six realise that their best chance of survival are to align themselves with those that they trust the most. But with Mr U.N. Owen continuing to outwit the ever dwindling group, how many of them will make it to the final episode Monday night?
