American Horror Story - She Wants Revenge - Review: "No One Survives Her"
16 Dec 2015
American Horror Story Reviews ROAmerican Horror Story Hotel continued its amazing season last week with “She Wants Revenge”. I must say I have very much enjoyed that episode. It was a rich and surprising episode, especially compared to last week.
Honestly, the revelation of John being the Ten Commandment Killer disappointed me so much. I have enjoyed John’s story as the misunderstood, flawed man but who wants to be good, to do good in that crazy dark place that is the Hotel Cortez. It was a bit painful to watch him suffer but it was way more interesting than discovering what 90% of the viewers already guessed, John was the killer with a split personality, memories erased etc… Only highlight of that episode was Evan Peters. He was absolutely stunning, and he was again last week (and probably will be tonight), he has really been excellent this season. I’m glad the Ten Commandment killer story tied in with Mr March but I still wish it wasn’t John.
Anyways, John wasn't there in “She Wants Revenge” because the episode was all about the women. Lady Gaga and Angela Bassett were both, on a different level, stunning in the episode. I’m super thrilled for Lady Gaga’s nomination at the Golden Globes. I sincerely think she deserves it. She has proven with those 9 episodes of AHS Hotel that she is an excellent actress. I just think it’s unfair Bassett didn’t get her nomination because this year she is absolutely killing it as Ramona Royale.
In “She Wants Revenge”, we got a whole sense of Ramona personality and just how awesome she is. It has been a while since Ramona didn’t show up and it was actually Donnie who came back to her, with a pseudo porn star to feed on and she was finally ready to get her vengeance on The Countess. In a heart breaking and beautiful flashback, Ramona explained what had happened to her after The Countess killed her lover and rejected her. She went back to her parents, who were older and sick but there she was someone. Ramona took care of them, because that’s just the type of woman she is. She is a loving and a caring girl.
After her mother died, her father became weaker and sicker, and after being burglarized and attacked, Ramona chose to give him the vampire virus to cure him. Unfortunately, the virus couldn’t cure his brain, he still forgot who his daughter was or that his wife had died. It was so tragic and heart breaking. Ramona forgot herself, her life, to take care of her parents. But finally, as her father wouldn’t get better, she chose to end his life, in a bath. It was very emotional and unexpected. Ramona first seemed like more a frivolous character, she was the fun and sassy actress but this flashback really gave a new depth to her character, splendidly portraying by Bassett. I was already rooting for her but now I really want her to get her vengeance…
Ramona got this close to her final vengeance plan. Thanks to Donnie, she got into the Hotel Cortez and she even got into The Countess' room, with her knife, ready to slit her throat. Of course, it couldn’t happen (it’s only episode 9, Gaga can’t die on the show just yet). Even tough, I was surprised and I jumped my seat a bit when Gaga opened her eyes and Donnie tazed Ramona. That bastard ! Ramona got herself trapped in the same weird thing that the tourists from the first episode. And someone else was going to join her. Oh The Countess, you’re such a cruel vampire bitch.
On “She Wants Revenge”, we celebrated The Countess and Will Drake’s wedding. The whole thing was pretty short but thanks to Liz Taylor, it was hilarious and memorable. She was still so angry at Elizabeth for taking Tristan away from her. Denis O'Hare is at his best this season. Her comments on The Countess, and The Countess’s reaction were excellent. I really love that moment. Of course, the wedding wouldn’t last. The Countess only needed Drake for his money, she never loved him. The Countess only loves one man and it’s Valentino. Now he’s back and it has changed everything.
Wittrock and Gaga scene in the motel was excellent, so touching. I’m having troubles to root for The Countess, she’s so bad and so selfish but in that moment, she moved me. It was clear her heart was all for Valentino, he was her one and her only wish and desire now is to lock themselves up in the Hotel Cortez, turning it into a fortress against the modern world as she said.
Lady Gaga is totally killing it portraying the most selfish and cruel character on AHS. The Countess is willing to destroy everyone happiness, life, love, only to get what she wants. So Will Drake had only few hours to live after marrying Elizabeth. And when James March showed him The Countess’s infant, his disgusted and horrified reaction sealed his fate. Elizabeth sent him, along with Ramona inside the secret part of the hotel, where Valentino and Natacha were trapped for a hundred years. Now, it was Ramona’s time to be trapped forever. I was actually glad The Countess didn’t kill her Ramona, the punishment might be more cruel, but I’m confident Ramona will find a way out. Drake was just there to give her more strength and she will get out and she will get her vengeance… or at least she’ll try again.

Vampires notes :
- So many great monologues in that episode. From Iris with how much the porn industry can hurt people, Ramona and how much loneliness can affect you to The Countess reflections on immortality and control.
- The soundtrack this season is definitely the best !
- Now, The Countess hates Jimmy March with all her guts. He robbed her from the thing she loves the most… Can’t wait to see how it’ll go. - And Alex got reunited with her little vampire kids but they're such brats. They think they can handle everything... This is gonna blow up soon.
