The Vampire Diaries - Season 7 - EP on What's Next for Stefan and Caroline, Bonnie's New Relationship and More

BONNIE’S NEW MAN | The idea for a Bonnie/Enzo pairing began in Episode 21 of Season 6 when Enzo visited came to visit Lily at the Salvatore Mansion, where he was met at the door by Bonnie. “Kat [Graham] and Michael [Malarkey] had such … chemistry in that really short scene,” Dries recalls. “We were like, ‘Huh … Let’s explore that relationship.’ Of course, they have no reason to like each other; in the present day, we’ve been telling their hate story. So the whole point is that, when you see them in the future, you’re supposed to be like, ‘Wait, how did they get to there?’ Hopefully it created enough intrigue to keep [fans] guessing.”

TYLER’S SECOND COMING | As TVLine previously reported, fans have not seen the last of Tyler Lockwood. Now, Dries is ready to tease a little more about what she calls the “mythology arc” in which Tyler will find himself: “He’s going to have sort of a side story that will help us later in the season to introduce us to this new world.”

Bomb: Valerie’s truth

That “huge bomb” executive producer — Caroline Dries — hinted to earlier in an interview with Zap2it, the woman Stefan (Paul Wesley) lost his virginity to, Valerie (Elizabeth Blackmore), tells Stefan that she actually was on her way to meet him that fateful day. However, she fell victim to a beating and it was so bad … she lost the baby.

Yep, she was pregnant with his child.

Afterward, Valerie was so ashamed, she tried to commit suicide. But since she already had vampire blood in her body … well, you know the rest.

Oh yeah, and it was Julian (Todd Lasance) — the guy Stefan’s mom, Lily Salvatore (Annie Wersching), is still so desperately in love with — who is actually, “the devil,” as Dries described him, who beat Valerie to a pulp.

It was already visible in Stefan’s eyes the he still had feelings for the girl who took his V-card and now that he knows the truth, “he will be shaken to his core,” Dries says. “In episode 6 , he admits how it effects him.” And lying to Caroline (Candice King), “will cause problems with his relationship.” Caroline knows something isn’t right, and Stefan “will make her feel insecure, and she’s not insecure (this season). Her core will be strengthened sooner than later.”

Tidbits from set:

- This episode committed the egregious sin of coming in three minutes short. Here’s what you DON’T want to do when your episode is short: stretch it out to make it longer. You can completely destroy an episode if you mess with its rhythm and pace, so we added three new scenes. Tweet me if you can guess.
- The “Casket Emporium” was actually a very small room in our production office with a couple dozen caskets on shelves, made to look like an endless warehouse through the magic of visual effects. Joe “Joe Props” Connelly had to scour the state of Georgia for new and used caskets, which are shockingly expensive. Death is not an inexpensive business. Speaking of (our beloved) Joe Props, his daughter, who was a pre-teen when we started shooting, just started college. Nothing makes you feel prouder (or older) than watching the Crew Kids grow up over the years. Joe has politely requested that we remain on the air another five years until his younger daughter is done with college. Seems like a fair ask.
