LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The CW has ordered a pilot from screenwriter and novelist Lauren Bird Horowitz. The Story of David is based on the real-life story of a first generation Hispanic American who rose from poverty in a gang-riddled ghetto to achieve soccer stardom. Stephanie Germain and Selby Lane Enterprises will produce the gritty family drama. Horowitz, who has previously written for the CW and ABC Family, is represented by CAA.
As a poet, young adult novelist and screenwriter, Horowitz's work has spanned a wide audience. The Story of David is her first TV project after the successful debut of her USA Today-recommended novel Shattered Blue, book one in her hot new YA fantasy series The Light Trilogy. The novel has been featured in popular teen, young adult, and literary outlets across the country including POPSUGAR, Hypable, Glitter Magazine, Buzzfeed, San Francisco Book Review, CNBC Radio, Maria Shriver and more. Horowitz also has two feature films in development.
"This has been such an amazing year. Shattered Blue's release was a dream come true, and now I'm thrilled to begin work on The Story of David, a project inspired by a real-life story with no less magic and just as much heart," says Horowitz.
About Lauren: Lauren – or 'Bird' as she is often known – is a screenwriter and novelist lucky enough to call both Los Angeles and Kauai home. Bird studied writing at Harvard University with novelist Jamaica Kincaid, where she won several prizes including the Edward Eager Memorial Prize for fiction. She's a proud member of the Writers Guild of America.
