The Muppets - Pig Out/Walk the Swine - Double Review

Nov 9, 2015

This is a double review of the latest two episodes of The Muppets. What have we lost? In "Pig Out", Piggy feeling left out of after-work activities, she obliges Kermit to get an invitation for her. He’s not happy about it because he knows that she is left out because the crew needs to get relaxed after stressful working hours.

During the night, firstly Piggy’s presence is entirely unwelcome as they all have to listen to her whine about her life, but as the drinks keep flowing and the guest star Ed Helms joins, the gang has fun to the point of a totally crazy drunken karaoke. The focus of the ending of the episode is drunk singing Muppets and it’s about as awesome as it sounds. I really enjoyed this hilarious final moments and how they finally got rid of the usual in-studios routine for a night-out.

In the episode “Walk the Swine”, we get to know that Miss Piggy wanted the lead female role in Walk the Line, for which Reese Witherspoon won the Oscar. Well, she didn’t accept her refusal so easily.

So in this week’s episode, we learn more about Miss Piggy’s long-standing beef with Reese Witherspoon. At the same time Scooter has to deal with the aftermath of a collision with Rizzo in the parking lot and Fozzie and his girlfriend negotiate how they will deal with jokes about his relationship on stage. I really enjoyed this episode too, and I have to admit that The Muppets has finally found its dimension. It’s not a brilliant one, but largely entertaining. I really loved some moments of Walk the Swine, and Reese was magnificent in her guest star role.

The Muppets received a full season order but it will change creative direction: Bob Kushell is exiting the show and the tv series will be guided by Galavant's Kristin Newman. The Muppets’ new format's problems got noticed by ABC, so we just to wait and see what their future will be like. Let’s hope it won’t end up badly, or it won’t confuse the core-audience that the show is keeping at the moment.

What do you think of Pig Out and Walk the Swine?
