Scene Of The Week - November 8, 2015 + POLL

8 Nov 2015

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

ARROW, "Haunted", November 4, 2015, Actors: Caity Lotz, Matt Ryan and more
The Scene: Constantine saves Sara
Ben L:
Constantine saves Sara after she attempts to kill everyone especially Thea. Also picked by Diana Mack

DOCTOR WHO, "The Zygon Inversion", November 7, 2015, Actors: Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and more, The Scene: The Doctor prevents the war between Humans and Zygons
Justyna K:
There's really no one else but the Doctor who would be able to deliver such a powerful speech, strong enough to prevent the war between species, not on this show and probably not on the others that I'm watching. He's been through impossible amount of pain, death and fight in his long life and now we can actually see how much he refuses to use anything other than his words and sometimes sonic screwdriver glasses against the actual weapons of his enemies. He knows better and that's actually one of the best things about the character. And Peter Capaldi is doing such an exceptional work with Twelfth Doctor. He often reminds me of the ones before him, yet always remains his own person. He's the kind of man who's just too broken to spend time on his feelings but when he gives into them, there's no one who wouldn't pay attention to his words, just like in this scene when he talks about the Time War. As much as the Doctor stole the moment for me, it's important to mention Jenna Coleman's great performance as both Clara and Bonnie. I really loved the way the look on her face was quietly changing as the Doctor's words were getting through to Bonnie. Kudos to the actors & writers for another brilliant episode.

FARGO, "Fear and Trembling", November 2, 2015, Actors: Michael Hogan and more
The Scene: Opening Sequence
Darth Locke:
1950's flashback with Otto and young Dodd Gerhardt doing business at the movie theater during a showing of Moonbase Freedom staring Ronald Reagan. Also picked by DarkUFO

GIRL MEETS WORLD, "Girl Meets the Forgiveness Project", November 6, 2015, Actors: Sabrina Carpenter and more, The Scene: Maya talks to Cory after she can't forgive her father
Klutzy girl:
Maya running inside after telling her father that she can't forgive him was absolutely heartbreaking and Sabrina knocked this episode out of the park. Maya was able to forgive herself and realize she wasn't at fault for her father leaving and that she had her family there to comfort her. Cory's become a father figure to her, and the hug was sweet and perfect.

HAVEN, "Perditus", November 5, 2015, Actors: Emily Rose, Laura Mennell and more, The Scene: Charlotte helps Audrey stop the trouble
Aimee Hicks:
Charlotte states that she hates that she has to help end the trouble resulting in her dying again and having to leave Audrey, but her love for her daughter is stronger than her hate. Getting to know Audrey made her a better person and she was just glad to have had this time with her after such a lengthy separation from her daughter. Laura Mennell did an amazing job delivering the scene. The looks she and Emily exchanged really sold the anguish each character was feeling over having to make this choice yet they both knew it was for the greater good. It was yet another sad loss for Audrey, but at least this time Audrey and Charlotte got to have a proper goodbye. It was sad for them to have to say goodbye again, but as Charlotte said in the episode at least she got to have closure with her loved ones. This relationship could have been so awkward given how close in age the actresses are, but they each beautifully sold the emotional bond that had formed since Charlotte revealed herself as Audrey's mom. A well rounded scene delivered perfectly by Laura and filled with heart and emotion.

HEROES REBORN, "June 13th Part Two", November 5, 2015, Actors: Jack Coleman, Greg Grunberg and more, The Scene: Matt reads Noah's mind
Laura Markus:
Matt Parkman returns and while being watched by Harris, must read Noah's mind to find out about Claire. This scene was outstanding. What a great return for Greg Grunberg to the Heroes franchise. All shipper bias aside, this scene was so heartbreaking. To watch Matt have to scour through Noah's mind to find out about what happened to Claire, all the while both of them are crying, was beautiful.

HOMELAND, "Better Call Saul", November 1, 2015, Actors: Rupert Friend and more
The Scene: Quinn's suicide attempt
Darth Locke:
Quinn's suicide attempt is interrupted by a mysterious man.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, "I Want You to Die", November 5, 2015, Actors: Viola Davis, Liza Weil, The Scene: Bonnie and Annalise fight
Laura Markus:
Honestly, this will go down in television history as one of the best acted scenes of all time. Liza and Viola absolutely killed it. Their fight truly felt like it came from the heart, making it feel so viscerally real. I certainly doubt they're going to reconcile from this anytime soon, much to my dismay, making this fight all the more important and significant. Bravo.
Diana Mack: Both actress are really great and the scene was so intense that kept me on nerves the whole time. Emmy well deserved for Viola Davis.

LIMITLESS, "Brian Finch's Black Op", November 3, 2015, Actors: Jake McDorman, Jennifer Carpenter
The Scene: Brian imagines his other self in the form of Rebecca
Darth Locke:
First time Brian imagines his other self in the form of Rebecca wearing rather unsuitable clothes [for her and the forest scene].

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "Among Us Hide...", November 3, 2015, Actors: Blair Underwood and more, The Scene: The truth about Lash
Justyna K:
As much as I should see this one coming, not just with the hints we were getting in the last few episodes but with all the comments and fan theories about Andrew being Lash, this still took me by surprise. I guess I didn't really expect the writers were willing to go there with this character. It's SHIELD we're talking about though. The stakes definitely got higher and we're in for quite an emotional story for the team, most importantly May. I'm glad that she's the one who found out the truth first, it's usually the other way around on TV, so it's a nice change, I have to say. I actually can't wait for everyone's reactions and I suddenly got far more interested in Lash's story and the motivation behind his actions. He's the one who was supposed be helping people which is exactly why him being the monster that's hunting Inhumans (including Lincoln) makes for a truly insane, yet important twist. The question for now: what's next, is there any way Andrew can still be saved? Should he after what he's done? Can't wait for the next episode already. Kudos!

SCORPION, "Crazy Train", November 2, 2015, Actors: Elyes Gabel, Katharine McPhee, The Scene: Paige apologizes to Walter for slapping him
Aimee Hicks:
Paige apologizes to Walter for slapping him and confesses that she did it because the idea of him sacrificing himself for her and Ralph terrified her. Watching him slip into the darkness and being unable to do anything to help him was more than she could emotionally handle. The heartfelt moment results in a near kiss between the will they or won't they couple which would have happened had Cabe not interrupted them. Katharine got to do more action stuff in this episode than in any other before, but it was this emotional apology scene that really stood out. A tense episode and a stellar performance by Katharine. Her chemistry with Elyes really helped to sell the emotion of the scene. Both characters took big risks for each other and even though this scene didn't end in a kiss just the fact it almost happened was a big step in the right direction for them.

SUPERGIRL, "Stronger Together", November 2, 2015, Actors: Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, The Scene: Alex and Kara have a heart-to-heart at the end
Aimee Hicks:
Alex and Kara have a heart-to-heart back at the DEO where Alex is recovering after their encounter with Astra. Alex realizes that it must have been a shock for Kara to find out she still has family and Kara quickly replies that Alex is her family. Kara confesses about the fights her mom and Astra used to have because Astra doesn't have faith in people. Alex catches onto what Kara was implying in their earlier conversation and makes sure Kara understands that without question she has faith in Kara. Melissa and Chyler have a natural ease together and they effortlessly sell the sisterly love their characters share. Alex is hard on Kara sometimes, but it's because she doesn't want to see any harm come to her little sister. Between the writing and the heartfelt performances of the actresses it's easy to see that Kara's bond is stronger with Alex then she could ever had with her own aunt. It was a tender scene that brought them together after a tense episode. Strong performances by the actresses topped off a well written scene.

THE FLASH, "The Darkness and the Light", November 3, 2015, Actors: Grant Gustin, Candice Patton and more, The Scenes: Barry's 'blind' date with Patty & Iris saves Linda
Bradley Adams:
This episode was The Flash back at its best, with goofy humour mixed in with serious story. This scene was certainly goofy humour, right from the word 'go'. From the Cisco directing Barry, Cisco providing a running commentary on the date or the fact that Patty took as long as she did to say anything about Barry's blindness, I can't decide which was the funniest thing about the scene.
Ben L: Iris saves Linda from getting killed by Dr. Light.

THE LEFTOVERS, "No Room at the Inn", November 1, 2015, Actors: Christopher Eccleston, Janel Moloney and more, The Scenes: Matt reads Yeats' poem to Mary & Opening montage
Bradley Adams:
This was some episode, and Christopher Eccleston was magnificent throughout, but it was this scene in particular that stood out. Matt's quiet, under-emphasised joy to be back in Miracle was contrasted with his calm comforting of wife Mary, before that all changed. Seeing the young boy, whose father had previously stolen the Jamesons' wristbands and was now dead from a car crash, hold out his wristband was just heartbreaking. Furthermore, seeing Matt, who had done some desperate things in the episode to get his wife home safely, break down upon realising that he couldn't do it any more and had to do right by God capped off a really depressing, yet amazing, episode of The Leftovers.
Francesco b: Matt reads Yeats' poem to Mary, and then after he gets out of the car, he finds the boy scared in the bushes. It was the most emotional moment in a wonderful episode. It was really tender and heartbreaking. The Leftovers' second season has been an emotional roller-coaster, and No Room at the Inn was one of the best episodes of the series.
DarkUFO: Opening montage.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Here's Not Here", November 1, 2015, Actors: John Carroll Lynch, Lennie James and more, The Scenes: Eastman explains the cell in his cabin & Morgan and the Cheesemaker fight
Bradley Adams:
It's a shame that we can't have John Carroll Lynch back on the show, because he was absolutely superb. The calmness with which he told the story of his family's murder and what he planned to do to Crighton Dallas Wilton was so compelling.
Ben L: Eastman clears up about why there is a cell in his cabin.
DarkUFO: Morgan and the Cheesemaker fight after he is let out of the cage.
