    ———-

    -Ratings Breakdown:
“The 49th Annual CMA Awards” on ABC, hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, was the top draw last night with an 8.2 rating/13 share in the household overnights from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, however, this was 15 percent below the 9.7/15 on the year-ago evening. But that translated into 16.25 million viewers and a 4.5 rating/14 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data, and this is a performance that will clearly resonate.

Despite the severity of the competition, “Empire” on Fox returned with a rock-solid 7.9/12 in the household overnights from 9-10 p.m., which built from lead-in “Rosewood” (#4: 3.9/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by a hefty 103 percent and should be more than enough to dominate the evening in all the key demographics. One year-earlier, failed drama “Red Band Society” could only manage a 2.2/ 3 in the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour. Planning ahead, Fox would be wise to spin-off a character or two (a la “Knots Landing” out of the original “Dallas”).

CBS was right on track with its combination of “Survivor” (#2: 5.4/ 8), “Criminal Minds” (#3: 5.0/ 8) and freshman medical drama “Code Black” (#3: 4.2/ 7), which was actually 132 percent below the 4.8/ 8 for failed drama “Stalker” one year earlier.

Elsewhere, NBC’s older-skewing drama line-up remains a somewhat competitive option care of “The Mysteries of Laura” (#3: 4.6/ 7), “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 4.3/ 7) and “Chicago PD” (#2: 4.3/ 8). Both “Law & Order: SVU” and “Chicago PD” (plus “Blindside” and “Chicago Fire”) recently had their episode orders increased to 23 installments this season. And The CW capped off the night with dramas “Arrow” (#5: 1.9/ 3) and veteran “Supernatural” (#5: 1.2/ 2), which remains a force in social media despite the ongoing anemic overnight showing.

  • About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database.
