    -Ratings Breakdown:
Sophomore “Empire” led Fox to a typical Wednesday, topping the night with a 7.7 rating/12 share in the household overnights. Comparably, that built from lead-in “Rosewood” (#4: 3.9/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by 97 percent. And “Empire was up by a whopping 305 percent from failed year-ago occupant “Red Band Society” (1.9/ 3 on 11/12/14). What more can you say?

Second for the night, and ignited by a Wednesday 8 p.m. edition of “The Voice,” was NBC. The singing competition led the 8 p.m. hour with a 6.7/11 in the household overnights, which was 26 percent above competing “Survivor” on CBS (#2: 5.3/ 9). And it led into “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 5.1/ 8), which got a boost, and “Chicago PD” (#1t: 4.4/ 8) from 9-11 p.m. Fans of the original “Law & Order” will be happy to know that there is ongoing talk of a 10-13 episode new season incorporating various cast-members from the first 20 seasons.

As for “Survivor…SPOILER ALERT: If you don’t want to know what happened on “Survivor” last night, stop reading. Considering this is a season of all returnees who supposedly know how to play “Survivor,” nine people should not have voted for Kelley Wentworth. The vote should have been split, with either Abi-Maria or Ciera the second vote in the event Kelley had the idol. The majority still rules, and Kelley, Abi-Maria and Ciera may not last past the next episode, but last night’s tribal council will go down in the record books as one of the worst mistakes made in the history of the show.

“Survivor” led into “Criminal Minds” (#3: 5.2/ 8) and “Code Black” (#1t: 4.4/ 8) from 9-11 p.m., which is on the fence at present on any additional episodes.

Elsewhere, ABC was at typical Wednesday overnight levels with its combination of sitcoms “The Middle” (#3: 5.0/ 8), “The Goldbergs” (#3: 4.5/ 7), “Modern Family” (#2: 5.6/ 9) and “black-ish” (#4: 4.0/ 6) and drama “Nashville” (#3: 3.3/ 6). Stepping into the Wednesday 10 p.m. hour in place of “Nashville” will be the second season of anthology “American Crime” on January 6.

And The CW populated the evening with “Arrow” (#5: 1.8/ 3) and “Supernatural” (#5: 1.1/ 2), which were both equal to one week earlier.
