After weeks of mystery, Minority Report finally provided some background on the precogs and how they all ended up where they are today. It was nice to see their history and to understand why they are the way they are. Fiddler’s Neck, in particular, showed us the rural island which they travelled to upon their release from the precrime program, and also fleshed out Agatha’s backstory, which was desperately needed! Both episodes focused on the precog’s past and included the place they lived after pre crime, Fiddler’s Neck, and how they got there after being released.
Fiddler’s Neck:
This episode had a lot going for it. First, seeing all the siblings working together was nice and we got a closer look at how Agatha fits in with them during crime solving. Up until this point she had always been rather cold and distant, but this episode seemed to humanize her and make her a much more relatable character. However, I already had an opinion on her and this didn't really change anything. I will say though, even though she’s a bit of a weirdo and I don’t particularly like her, I do kind of like Agatha and Brian together. I’m a bit disappointed that it didn’t work out between them. One of my big complaints for this show in general is that they’re always really loose with the precog secret. I’m sure by the end of their time together, Brian and his whole family must have known that they were all from the precrime program. Plus, they walk around casually talking about it in public every week and they aren't very subtle with their explanations either.
Honor Among Thieves:
Now that we had been introduced to Fiddler’s Neck in the previous episode, Honor Among Thieves showed us how they ended up there and what their lives were like fresh out of precrime. The episode began with a flashback to right after they were let go. Interestingly, they all seem to act like Dash does now. Agatha and Arthur seem to have adapted to fit into the outside word but Dash is still kind of the same wide-eyed, naive person he’s always been. We see that on the first night of their release, Arthur meets a woman and quickly takes a liking to her. However, she ends up being the victim of a murder and they weren’t able to save her. They didn’t really try though, the only person who really wanted to make the effort was Arthur and by the time he had the chance it was too late. This totally explains Arthur’s attitude and persona. He obviously doesn’t like to get close to anyone because the first time he got attached, that person died. It’s interesting though to see how Dash and Arthur seem to have flip-flopped their opinions in the time since these events.
Meanwhile, in the present, Dash and Vega were too late to save a murder victim so Dash gets really over eager and starts working the case by himself. This gets him into some trouble and he ends up being kidnapped by a high profile crime boss. The murder victim was embezzling money and hiding it for the person who took Dash, so when he ends up dead and all the money goes missing, this crime boss suspects that Arthur is responsible, hence the Dash kidnapping. It turns out that Arthur is responsible, but in the end it all works out and they get Dash back, mostly in one piece (minus a finger!). I was shocked they actually went that far but obviously with their tech, reattaching it takes two seconds - kind of makes the threat of cutting off a finger not that scary.
I enjoyed this episode because it was cute to see Arthur caring so much about Dash. We’ve seen them make a lot of progress in their relationship so far but this episode really showed how much they care for each other. It was especially nice because, up until this point, it didn’t really seem like Arthur cared that much about anyone. He’s my favorite, and in my opinion, the most interesting character on the show so it was great to see some character development and backstory for him.
