Law and Order SVU Reviews SCWell, at least these parents have their priorities straight, more than the Dugger family. And to be clear not all Born Again Christian families are this narrow minded. But in this case, we have a Born Again Christian family, that have decided to put theirs lives on Reality TV. The Baker family headed off to New York City for Lane's Virtue Ball, where she vows to save herself for marriage. While she was dancing with her father at the Ball, Lane passed out and had to go to the hospital, where the doctors found out that she was pregnant. Since Lane was only 13 years old the doctors, by law where required to call the detectives. When Benson got there she was unable to talked to Lane because her parents were very protective of Lane. The Baker parents mentioned that they would rather take her home and take it up with their local police department.
These Baker parent are the definition of the phrase "controlling parents". When the detectives got back to the station, a very pregnant Rollins found out that the Baker family where in New York City when Lane got pregnant. Which means the crime happened under NYPD's jurisdiction. When the detectives went back to the hospital to talk to the Bakers they found out that they were on their way back home. Lucky the detectives caught the Bakers before they left, and asked them to come down to the station so they could talk. When the whole family arrived at the station, Benson managed to speak with Lane alone. That child was so scared, you could see the fear in Lanes eyes. Benson saw the fear that she has seen in many young victims that have been sexual assaulted by someone they trusted. When Benson was finally able to get Lane to talk about what happen, she wrote down the name of their camera man. But when the detectives brought Pete Matthews in for questioning, they found video footage of the girls changing their clothes. But when they told Pete that Lane was pregnant he said it was impossible, because he got a vasectomy a few years ago. So it was clear that Pete wasn't their guy. He did however have some information to share with the detectives. Pete show them some video footage of the Bakers son Graham, getting a little touchy feely with the family's piano teacher.
There was something else that Carisi figured out. The two youngest sons are only 11 months apart, and around the time Tate was born the Bakers oldest daughter Summer was only in one episode, on video chat. Carisi's theory was that Tate was the product of incest between Graham and Summer. Fortunately due to the fact that Carisi was alright with baby drool on his clothes, they were able to test baby Tate's DNA. But the test came back negative, for Graham being Tate's father. There was only one other person who had access to girls as much as their parents, and that was Pastor Eldon. The Pastor was with Lane during the time she got pregnant, in New York City.
After that, Benson and the others found out that it was the Pastor who raped Lane, they quickly went to confront the Pastor. But when they got there, it was too late. The Pastor had agreed to marry Lane so her baby will be born into wedlock. Shocking as this may be, but there is a law in the State of New York stating a 14 year old could marry with a parent permission, as long as a Judge signs off.
This whole episode was to real to life. The problem I had with the parents was when their older daughter got pregnant, and yet they did nothing about it. All they did was send Summer off to some retreat to give birth to her son, then the Bakers adopted young Tate, as their own son. They didn't question who the father was, or how she got pregnant, they just pushed it under the rug.
It's scary if you think about it, a man that spends so such time with these children, could do something that horrible. Pastor Eldon, took advantage of the Baker family's trust. And then lied about it, and said that their son was the one that raped and got Lane pregnant. What kind of man was that?
The one thing you got to remember the most, "most rapist don't hunt the streets, they hunt where they're trusted." -Benson
