Grimm - The Grimm Identity - Review

Nov 4, 2015

Grimm season 5 started with a bamp this year. I have high expectations since Juliette's dead was a big game-changing, don't you think? To be honest her character didn't have anything more to offer to the show, beside being 'Grimm's girlfriend'. Also Adalind pregnant with Nick's baby really changed and shook things (in bad or good way, we'll see). In the season premiere, The Grimm Identity, things have never been more chaotic for Nick since he basically lost everything in his life. Except for his child: Nick is going to be a father for the first time, too bad the child is with his once sworn enemy, Adalind. While he's trying to figure it out what's life is going to be, his search for the truth leads him to FBI Agent Chavez and puts him at odds with those close to him.

When season fiVe starts, the action still takes place in Nick's house. Juliette just died in his arms, killed by Truble, who's been kidnapped by agent Chavez, and Kelly Burkhart died too. Did anynore find disturbing the black and white visions of Kelly's floating heads?
Anyway, he, Hank and Wu need to talk with Agent Chavez right now. Nick puts his Grimm side out and confront her in her office.
Also Hank and Wu inform Captain Renard about Juliette. Nick is angry, he's out of control, which is completely understandable. No one can't stop his anger, neither Sean Renard's words, while he's trying to balance the police of Portland and the FBI. So he has no choice but to force Nick to take some time off.
David Giuntoli did a great job in this episode, picturing a desperated and confused Nick. When he comes back home, he starts to lose his mind: he hears Juliette's voice, he then goes upstairs in their room but no one is here. He cries. He misses Juliette. He realizes she's gone.
Later, Nick kidnaps Chavez and with the rest of the gang (Hank, Wu, Rosalee and Monroe) questions her about Trubel's disappearence, but the Agent doesn't want to say a word. When her phone rings he talks with an unknown person (who later we discover being Martin Meisner) and says Nick is a Grimm. If Nick wants to see who called, Agent Chavez gives him a change to follow her and meet the unknown person. Sooner it turns out they are caught into a trap: two agents have been killed, and Chavez is badly injured. Before she dies she tells him about a war that's coming.

Elsewhere, Bud calls Nick because Adalind is into labor and she's at the hospital right now. Her baby has had some troubles, but now the little boy - named Kelly, after Nick's mom - is healthy and fine. Nick is at first hesitating, then he holds him and starts to bond. Adalind hopes he will stop hating her, but I think Nick has other issues to deal with now: finding Trubel, mouring Juliette and his mom (he didn't have time to do that!) and be a dad. May this child be the new glimpse of hope he needs to get along during what will be the toughest year of Grimm?
We'll see.
