My Bad Parts starts with Lucious who decides to challenge Hakeem by getting his new rapper Freda to engage in a rap battle with him. After the powerful first season’s Jamal’s rap battle, I was afraid that this one wouldn’t be as interesting as the previous one. I was wrong!
Lucious and Cookie continue to battle over Jamal, this time because of a Pepsi’s song and their poor son tried to convince them to put their differences aside. The song succeedes and I really enjoyed the scenes between Jamal, Lucious and Cookiethis week. Easily the best part of the episode. Another interesting, but not so original development was the Anika’s pregnancy. So we have two pregnancy in just one season, but Ani is scared to tell to the youngest Lyon that he is going to become a father.
Vivica A. Fox was a guest star of this episode as Cookie's rich other sister Candace. They head to Philadelphia to go get something and find Carol. I don’t see the point of adding so randomly a new character, but this storyline ended up being interesting. This episode was an improvement, considering the disappointing previous one.
Candace and Cookie go on searching for Carol and they meet Pepper, who apparently knows where Carol is. On the way to get Carol, Pepper mentions to Cookie that Cookie’s prison mates are missing her and that she should visit her.
Carol is found and she decides to go back to New York with Cookie. Candace said she’ll take care of Carol’s kids until she’s clean. Candace also tells Carol that if Cookie knew what Carol did when Cookie was in prison, Cookie probably wouldn’t be okay with that.
Lucious is desperate to get this music streaming service and Andre tells him that the only other alternative was to try to sell Empire’s other non-musical brands, such as alcohol brand but Lucious doesn’t agree. Anika visits Rhonda and she tells her she’s in love with Hakeem. Rhonda tells her a story about how she bullied a girl for trying to start a relationship with Andre.
Alicia Keys appears as Skye Summers. Skye is an award winning artist who collaborates with Jamal on his new album Jamal has been a fan of her for a long time and they start to sing “Powerful,” a song about racial injustice, so it touches a few sentimental points. They shared in fact an intimate moment. I am okay with Jamal being bisexual or fluid, but I don’t like how they are developing this storyline.
