Ash Vs. Evil Dead - Brujo - Review

Last week, after firing her gun in a situation she did not understand, Ash left Amanda handcuffed to a pole in the bookstore. I believe he was too annoyed with her to remember that there was a potential Deadite lying only a few feet away from her. Luckily, for Amanda at least, Ruby arrives in time to save her life.

Ruby gives Amanda the low down on what’s going on. Unfortunately, it includes her belief that Ash is responsible for all of this including the death of her family. The biggest mistake Ruby’s making is that she thinks Ash did all of this intentionally. Amanda agrees to join Ruby on her quest. It shouldn’t take them too long to catch up with Ash considering Ash’s hand is awake and searching for him.

Ash and the gang are headed for Pablo’s uncle’s house. They’re hoping the Brujo can help Ash figure out the clue he was given in the bookstore. But, Kelly seems to have gotten a bit of a concussion, and The Evil is trailing the trailer.

The car radio goes wonky, windows close and the doors lock. Ash tries the nitrous he added to his old clunker and quickly discovers why no one uses nitrous in a car like his. Luckily, the Brujo has warded his property, so when they turn into his lane they’re safe.

Pablo’s feeling a little guilty about having taken off to find himself, so he greets his uncle with a heartfelt apology. His uncle lets it go rather quickly and gets down to business. He sizes Ash up pretty quickly, but manages to come up with a way to get the job done. He drugs Ash and sends him on a vision quest to find the answer within himself. Ash eventually finds his happy place, Jacksonville FL, and his hand. Being Ash, when he comes close to finding the answer, he tosses the Book into the ocean. He doesn’t even find out if Eli is a boy or a girl.

I may get the multipurpose hand I was dreaming of while watching the pilot. Pablo decides to kill time by fashioning a new hand to replace the one lost in the bookstore. Pablo wants to add a screwdriver and laser pointer. Kelly suggests a spray nozzle (for his hair dye.)

Apparently, hitting a demon with The Book doesn’t send the demon back to Hell. It gives it the opportunity to invade your body. It’s not clear if Kelly ever realizes she’s been possessed, but Ash finds out the hard way. I think the demon was responsible for what was happening to Ash’s car, but I did wonder how the demon could be so powerful once it went through the Brujo’s barriers.

This ep wasn’t my favorite of the bunch. There was a lot of good stuff, but the acid trip sequence went on a little too long for me. Also, for some reason, Ruby and Amanda's meeting wasn’t all I was hoping for. I think the reason was that their first scene contained a lot of information the audience already knows.

What did you guys think? Are you still having fun?
