  • Fox Buys Chris Case Family Comedy
    In a competitive situation, Fox has bought a single-camera comedy project from Sin City Saints co-creator Chris Case. Written by Case, the untitled project (aka My White Wife and Kids aka Black Daddy), centers on an African American ex-NFL player with an old-school take on parenthood who quickly marries his white Bohemian psychologist girlfriend and is forced to adjust to domestic life with her and her entitled, difficult children. The project is based on Case’s experience as a teenager growing up with a black step dad, an ex football player, who married his white mom.

    Case will executive produce the comedy, which has been laid off at 20th Century Fox Television, with Evan Silverberg and Daniel Rappaport of Management 360 as well as Chris Spencer (Real Husbands of Hollywood).

    Will Arnett is returning to CBS.

    The network has put a workplace comedy from the former star of The Millers into development, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

    CBS vet Tom Hertz (Rules of Engagement, King of Queens) will pent the script. The untitled multicam project is described as a workplace ensemble set at a public high school.

    Sandra Bullock’s latest role in Our Brand Is Crisis was originally written for George Clooney, and then rewritten for the Oscar-winning actress. Based on some recent news, it sounds like she’s eager to see that switch play itself out all over again.

    EW has confirmed that Bullock will lead an all-female reboot of Ocean’s Eleven, with Hunger Games director Gary Ross set to take over for Steven Soderbergh behind the camera.

    Stalker alum Elisabeth Rohm has been tapped for a recurring role on the third season of Michael Bay’s action-adventure TNT series The Last Ship. Based on William Brinkley’s novel, The Last Ship deals with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoids falling victim to the devastating tragedy. The captain and crew confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they may be among the few remaining survivors. Rohm will play Allison Shaw, the highly intelligent and capable Chief of Staff to President Michener (Mark Moses).

    EXCLUSIVE: Real-life sisters Greer Grammer (Awkward) and Spencer Grammer (Rick And Morty) are set to guest star in an episode of CBS midseason drama Rush Hour playing, of course, sisters. This is their first time playing opposite each other in a series.

    Greer and Spencer will play sisters Destiny and Heather Lamb. Destiny is Heather’s younger sister, with ambitions to become an actress. Heather turns to the police for help when Destiny goes missing after a night of partying, but Lee (Foo) and Carter (Hires) soon learn that this reaches farther back than just one missing persons case.

Written by Porter, the project is loosely based on Porter’s personal life and relationship with his wife and her family. Jonathon Komack Martin and Blake Goza oversee the comedy for Dark Trick.

    “Last Man Standing” stars Tim Allen as Mike Baxter, Nancy Travis as Vanessa Baxter, Molly Ephraim as Mandy Baxter, Kaitlyn Dever as Eve Baxter, Amanda Fuller as Kristin Baxter, Jordan Masterson as Ryan Vogelson, Christoph Sanders as Kyle Anderson, Flynn Morrison as Boyd Baxter, Jonathan Adams as Chuck Larabee and Hector Elizondo as Ed Alzate.

    Guest starring is Erika Alexander as Carol and Sarah Gilman as Cammy.

    NBC has put in development Midnight, Texas, a drama series based on the three-book series by True Blood author Charlaine Harris.

    Like True Blood, Midnight, Texas is a Southern tale with supernatural elements. Written/executive produced by Monica Owusu-Breen and executive produced by David Janollari, the drama is set in Midnight, Texas, where the real world and the supernatural collide in a dangerous, sexy, place full of dark secrets and mysterious people. It’s a small town where asking the wrong question or overstaying your welcome could get you killed. Stop at the one traffic light and everything looks normal; stay awhile and learn the truth.

  • 10:30 - ABC Developing Terrorism Crime Drama Inspired by NY Police Commissioner Ray Kelly
    The Mark Gordon Company is developing a terrorism crime drama for ABC, hailing from scribe Michael Finch and “Hostages” co-creator Jeffrey Nachmanoff who will direct the pilot, Variety has learned exclusively.

    Finch, Nachmanoff, Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper of Mark Gordon Co. will all serve as exec producers.

    The project is loosely inspired by the achievements and expertise of Ray Kelly, the longest serving Police Commissioner in New York City’s history. It follows two Joint Terrorism Task Force Agents, a FBI Special Agent and a NYPD detective, both very different people with secrets who are thrown together to solve the terror crime of the century before it happens. Their target is a man who knows everything about terror because he was designed to sow it. Two of these people know each other intimately — but not the ones you think, or in the way you think.

    Kelly, who served nearly 50 years in the NYPD, was an instrumental architect of the city’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. He will serve as a producer on the ABC show.

Now Sony Pictures TV has put together a Heaven Is For Real drama series project, which has been set up at NBC.

    The project is based on Heaven Changes Everything, Todd and Sonya Burpo’s sequel book to Heaven Is For Real. Written/executive produced by Trouble with the Curve scribe Randy Brown, the hourlong drama revolves around a small-town pastor who must find the courage and faith to lead his parishioners after the news of his son’s visit to Heaven due to a near-death experience begins to capture worldwide attention.

    EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has given Anonymous Content and Paramount TV’s 13 Reasons Why, executive produced by Selena Gomez, a straight-to-series order.

    The show, based on the New York Times bestselling YA book by Jay Asher, was created by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Brian Yorkey, who also wrote the pilot. Joy Gorman Wettels is exec producing for Anonymous Content along with Michael Sugar and Steve Golin. Kristel Laiblin and Mandy Teefey also exec produce.

    13 Reasons Why is the 2nd Netflix straight to order series for Anonymous Content. The first is the Plan B collaboration The OA, which goes into production next quarter.
