Fox has given a script commitment plus penalty to Watchdog, a drama executive produced and directed by Jason Winer. Written/co-executive produced by by playwright Jon Caren, Watchdog is described as a new era procedural about a team of vigilante activists that expose abuses of power…while evading the FBI. 20th Century Fox TV, where Winer is under an overall deal, is the studio.

Fox has put in development a single-camera half-hour autobiographical comedy from Cooper Barrett’s Guide To Surviving Life producer Brian Rubenstein and New Wave Entertainment. Rubenstein will write the pilot and executive produce with New Wave’s Matt Ochacher, Brian Volk-Weiss and Michelle Pelmont.
Based on Rubenstein’s life, Untitled Brian Rubenstein focuses on Jessica Roberts, a loving wife, mom …and fiercely competitive women’s basketball coach. When she gets her dream job at a Division I school, she has to figure out how to juggle her family, her team and everything in between. The story is told through the eyes of her teenage son, who is struggling to become a man while constantly surrounded by 15 women.

Alexandra Metz (The Originals) has booked a recurring role on CBS’ crime drama procedural NCIS: New Orleans. Metz will play Billy S., a young pregnant woman in 2005 distraught over the recent shooting of her husband during a hurricane. She is working with investigators to make sense of everything and find her husband’s missing body. When LaSalle (Lucas Black), a troubled detective, appears impatient and dismissive with her, she sees right through him, going from vulnerability to strength and anger as she puts him in his place. Reunited 10 years later, despite the tragic and difficult memories they shared, she is happy to see him again and curious to see how he’s changed.

In a competitive situation, Fox has given a script with penalty commitment to Summer People, an hourlong drama from Twisted creator Adam Milch, The Firm and Sony Pictures TV. Written and executive produced by Milch, Summer People is described as provocative drama exploring class and sexuality on a fictional version of Martha’s Vineyard, an island known for the movie stars, politicians and Wall Street power brokers who descend there every summer, disrupting the lives of the blue collar locals. 01:25 - The Year of Living Biblically - CBS Development Comedy from Johnny Galecki
In its first development season, Alcide Bava Prods., the Warner Bros. TV-based company of The Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki, has sold its first project — a multi-camera comedy from writer Scott King, showrunner of the Hulu series Difficult People, which has been set up at CBS. Additionally Alcide Bava is developing a half-hour comedy series based on A.J. Jacobs’ bestselling book The Year of Living Biblically.
The untitled Scott King project, which has received a script commitment, centers on a type-A, emotionally reserved newlywed who invites his wife’s twin sister to stay with them and suddenly finds himself in a world of over-sharing, and a third wheel in his own marriage. King and Galecki executive produce.

CBS is developing Hot Sauce, a half-hour comedy from Drunk Wedding filmmaker Nick Weiss, writer-actor Gary Lundy and ABC Studios. Co-written by Weiss and Lundy, in Hot Sauce, when a high-powered, no-nonsense mom must relocate her family to small-town Louisiana to work for the most popular hot sauce company in the world, she finds herself pitted against a culture and community she doesn’t want infiltrating her family. Weiss will direct the potential pilot and will executive produce alongside Kristin Newman (Galavant) who will supervise the script. Lundy co-executive produces.

21:35 - Saville Productions To Adapt Thriller Novels ‘Mr. Clarinet’ & ‘King Of Swords’ For TV
Saville Productions has acquired the bestselling thriller novels The King Of Swords and Mr Clarinet by Nick Stone, with plans to develop them as a dramatic series for cable or digital platforms.
Set in Miami during the city’s cocaine cowboys heyday of the 80s and 90s, the novels follow ex-Miami cop and P.I. Max Mingus, navigating the complexities of international corruption and crime. Mr. Clarinet sees Mingus searching for a missing 3-year-old boy in Haiti only to come up against a notorious criminal he put away nearly 20 years earlier. King Of Swords serves as a prequel, taking place during Mingus’ 1980s police detective days as he and his partner investigate a bizarre murder in a primate park.

Fox has put in development Affirmative Action, an hourlong dramedy from Sony TV and Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein’s studio-based Vendetta.
Written/co-executive produced by Kevin Costello, Affirmative Action is described as a serialized look at an all-minority federal task force led by a woman, Addison Cain (think Ronda Rousey — at once sexy and bad-ass), embedded in the predominantly white Houston Police Department to combat an unprecedented spike in violent crime. The unit was created as an attempt to alleviate racial tensions in the city. But what was intended to be a glorified PR campaign becomes a ragtag band of do-gooding misfits.

21:30 - MOVIES: Lego Batman - Rosario Dawson to Voice Batgirl
Rosario Dawson will voice Batgirl in the animated “Lego Batman” opposite Will Arnett, Michael Cera and Zach Galifianakis in the Warner Bros.’ spin-off of “The Lego Movie.”
Chris McKay, who supervised animation on “The Lego Movie,” is directing from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith. Producers are Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
“Lego Batman” opens Feb. 10, 2017. Arnett is returning to voice Batman while Cera is on board for Robin. Galifianakas is in negotiations to voice The Joker.

Oscar winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Frozen River, Louie), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Martian) and Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine, The Office) have joined the ensemble cast of our new one-hour dark comedy pilot I’m Dying Up Here. They are joining cast members Ari Graynor (For A Good Time Call), Andrew Santino (Mixology), RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Erik Griffin (Workaholics) and Stephen Guarino (Happy Endings).
Melissa Leo will play the role of “Goldie,” a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist and nurtures her comedians with tough love.
Sebastian Stan will play “Clay,” a funny, charming comedian on the rise, who declares irrelevancy as his biggest fear. He is idolized by his ex and fellow comedian Cassie (Graynor).
Clark Duke will guest star as “Larry,” a ballsy young comedian from Boston who moves to L.A. with the hopes of making it big.

The adaptation of the cult comic had spent years in development as a movie but is now set up at Relativity Television.
Hack/Slash, the long-in-the works adaptation of the cult horror comic, has taken a twisty turn: It is now being developed as a television series.
The project is set up at Relativity Television, which has been spun off from Relativity Media with a new ownership umbrella that includes Anchorage Capital, Falcon Investments and Luxor Capital. Tom Forman remains the CEO.
Skip Woods, the action-loving scribe whose credits range from Swordfish to A Good Day to Die Hard to the Hitman movies, is writing the script.
Woods will also exec produce with Adrian Askarieh, who first optioned the comic back in 2005, and Ray Ricord.
Daniel Alter and Geoffrey Yim are co-exec producers.
Created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli, Hack/Slash centers on Cassie Hack, a woman who symbolizes the cliche of the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. However, the emotionally damaged girl not only survived but has become a killer of killers. Along with a burly protector named Vlad, Hack travels across the country hunting slashers in the vein of Halloween's Michael Myers, Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees and A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger.

04:10 - CBS Developing 2 Dramas from Dan Jinks; Untitled Medical Crime Drama & Stay
The Dan Jinks Company, which is behind CBS’ high-profile Nancy Drew series project, has sold two more dramas to the network through CBS TV Studios where the company is based — a medical drama with a strong investigative angle from writer David Rambo (Empire) and thriller Stay from The Good Wife co-executive producer Luke Schelhaas.
The untitled David Rambo project centers on an enterprising doctor who breaks the boundaries of medicine and crime-solving by creating a team of physicians, detectives and a forensic psychologist at Brooklyn’s busiest hospital, working together to heal victims and obtain justice. The project is inspired by Dr. Astrid Heger who created the Violence Intervention Program at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center and is considered a pre-eminent expert in the field of child sexual abuse and sexual assault. Rambo and Jinks executive produce.
Stay is based on the book of the same name by Victor Gischler published by Thomas Dunne Books in June. In the vein of Taken, in Stay, when his family is targeted by a crime lord, a stay-at-home dad who has spent years hiding his past in the U.S. Special Forces is pulled back into his old life in order to protect them. The book was brought to Dan Jinks Co. by SVP Nick Nantell. Jinks and Schelhaas executive produce.

01:30 - Chicago Med - Julie Berman Cast in a Recurring Role
General Hospital vet Julie Berman is transferring to Chicago Med.
The three-time Emmy-winning actress is joining NBC’s latest Chicago Fire spinoff in a recurring role, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Unlike on GH, Berman will actually be playing a doctor on Med — and a skilled one at that. Her character, Toni Zanetti, is a brilliant, self-assured attending surgeon who does not suffer fools. Sexy in scrubs and high heels, she confidently turns heads wherever she goes.
Berman’s Dr. Zanetti first appears in Episode 3.

00:05 - MOVIES: Die Hard Origin Story On The Drawing Board With Director Len Wiseman And Lorenzo Di Bonaventura

EXCLUSIVE: As Hans Gruber, his brother Simon and several other supervillains can attest, it is hard to kill NYPD cop John McClane, despite that underwhelming last film. Fox is making a deal for Live Free Or Die Hard helmer Len Wiseman to return and develop with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura a sixth installment of Die Hard, the venerable action series that overnight transformed Bruce Willis from a TV to a movie star back in 1988. All of this is early, but they are referring to this as Die Hard Year One, and I’m told that Wiseman and di Bonaventura are looking for a screenwriter to script a reinvention of the venerable action series, one that is sort of a prequel while still leaving room for Willis to play McClane as well. Basically, he’ll bookend a story line that will set much of the action in 1979, when McClane was a cop in gritty New York City and showing how he became a die hard kind of guy.

23:50 - Squad Goals - CBS Developing Comedy Produced by Ryan Seacrest
Ryan Seacrest is going to work on yet another project — this time, a scripted network comedy.
Seacrest will serve as an exec producer on “Squad Goals,” a timely, multi-camera, hybrid sitcom that is in development at CBS, Variety has learned exclusively.
The potential series is an ensemble comedy about a group of late 20-something friends who met in college and realize it’s time to finally grow up.
“Squad Goals” hails from 30-something scribes Lindsey Rosin and Aaron Karo, who penned the script. The duo has previously worked together, but the project marks their first major network sale together. Along with the “American Idol” multi-hyphenate, Nina Wass of Ryan Seacrest Productions will also exec produce, while Rosin and Karo will serve as co-exec producers and writers.
Insiders say the comedy, loosely inspired by the writers’ own observations, came to fruition when the pair realized they, among many other young adults, were at a pivotal life moment when their friends were at a crossroads, either balancing marriage and mortgages — or margaritas.

23:00 - MTV Pilots - Little Darlings and Untitled Weed Comedy - Cast Announced
Two of MTV's new comedy pilots are one step closer to reality.
The Viacom-owned cable channel has completed casting for Little Darlings as well as the untitled weed comedy from Can't Hardly Wait's Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Little Darlings is described as a dark half-hour comedy about two unlikely friends taking justice into their own hands and kicking literal ass on their college campus.
Eliza Bennett (Nanny McPhee) will play Jules, an effortless beauty who is living with a dark secret and balancing her picture perfect co-ed life with a new mission of redemption. But her double life is about to be exposed when an unexpected complication in the form of Ophelia shows up, ready and willing to be her partner in crime. Bennett is repped by ICM and Affirmative Entertainment.
Taylor Dearden (Breaking Bad) has been cast as Ophelia, a trust fund anarchist with sarcasm and wit to spare. Using the record store she works at as a home base for hacking test answer keys and other nefarious acts. Ophelia is close to dropping out of college until she meets Jules. Armed with a high IQ and Dragon-Tattoo-level computer hacking skills, Ophelia is immediately intoxicated with Jules’ double life, and becomes hell-bent on getting in on the action. Dearden is repped by Coronel Group.
