This week’s episode revolved around Marcel’s initiation into the Strix. They threw a big party where they stole his daylight ring. If he got it back before sunrise, he was in. If not … he’d end up as ashes. Klaus and Lucien enlisted Freya’s help to find Alexis and later crashed the Strix’ party. Hayley and Elijah attended it, where Hayley helped Marcel win by biting him. Alexis reveals more of the prophecy before dying at the hands of Aurora, who has arrived in New Orleans.
Favorite dynamic: I loved the dynamic between Klaus and Freya this week, both of whom seemed a bit drunk at times. Look how far these two have come. When Freya first appeared, they were basically at war, couldn’t stand each other and were determined to take each other down. Now there’s banter, babysitting and Klaus even said “thank you”. Give it another season and they’ll be braiding each other’s hair.
Most interesting chemistry: We only got a glimpse of Aya last week, but this week we saw a lot more. And I like it. I especially like her chemistry with Marcel. I was very impressed with him this week. We’ve always known he was smart, how else would he have been able to run New Orleans before the Mikaelsons arrived. But I don’t think we’ve ever really seen it until now. I can’t wait to see more of their interactions. Should be interesting.
Creepiest moment: Alexis was back with more of the prophecy. While I didn’t manage to spot anything new in what she showed Elijah and Hayley, what she showed Freya gave us even more questions. Alexis said the Mikaelsons will be Freya’s undoing. Does that mean she’s the one that will be brought down by family. I didn’t even realize she qualified for the prophecy. I thought it referred to the 3 remaining Original vampires. And I can’t think of one family member that would be so cruel as to bury her alive. These past few episodes, the prophecy had only half grabbed my interest. But now it has my full attention.
Best storyline: I find the Strix very intriguing. They sure know how to throw a party. I’d love to know more about the inner workings of the society. How they manage to stay so under the radar, especially since we heard that there were some member with important positions in the world. I was a bit unimpressed by Tristan. I’m not sure what it is, but he’s not what I expected Elijah’s first to be. (referring to first turned vampire here) I’d very much like to see flashbacks to Elijah starting the Strix. Lesson one: how to look dashing while covered in blood.
Best dressed couple: Hayley may have borrowed Rebekah’s dress, but she looked just as good in it as Rebekah would have. And Elijah … well let’s face it, no one pulls off a tux the way he does. Tristan better have been taking notes.
What I’m looking forward to: Crazy has come to town. Sorry, I meant Aurora. There’s been such a build-up around this character. So my expectations are very high. I’m curious to learn more about how she was turned, since we’ve seen very little reason as to why Rebekah would turn her in the flashbacks. Please tell me I wasn’t the only one who failed to notice her at the party.
Best song: Halsey - Castle
Best quotes:
Lucien: “My god, it’s a room full of Elijahs.” Klaus: “I had that exact same nightmare once.”
Freya: “Niklaus, please tell your creepy friend that just because he’s good-looking, doesn’t mean I won’t turn him inside out and hang what remains from a pole.”
Hayley: “I’ll have to explain this family to Hope someday. I think about that sometimes.” Elijah: “What do you think?” Hayley: “I wouldn’t lie to her. I’ll never lie to her. But you know what I’ll start with? Always and forever.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again next week for a new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
