The Originals - I'll See You in Hell - Review

This week’s episode of The Originals felt like more of a build-up episode. We got a lot of information this week thanks to the flashbacks of when Lucien was turned. In the present day, Cami interrogated Lucien who claimed that Tristan is the killer. Elijah and Marcel met with the Strix, the oldest society of vampires. Hayley and Jackson worked on her anger issues. Klaus came close to killing Lucien, only for Elijah to stop him when he hears there’s a weapon that can kill them. Aurora escaped her ‘prison’.

Favorite relationship drama: I noticed that some people didn’t like that Elijah just walked away at the end of the episode. I have to disagree. While Klaus semi-apologizing is a good first step, it doesn’t even come close to fixing things. Elijah has a right to be angry. And I feel like this isn’t just about the events that transpired last season. It’s like he’s been holding in his anger for a while and finally had enough. I still want to know what happened between them before we first met them on The Vampire Diaries that put them on opposite sides and made Elijah actually want to kill him.

Most interesting development: While I did not see the Strix coming, I’m very intrigued by them. Seeing how every member is impeccably dressed (well except for Tristan but Elijah was kind enough to fix that) I think it’s safe to assume they are all from Elijah’s sireline. I’m not surprised though, of course Elijah’s sire line is super organized. How could they not be? What I am curious about is how involved Elijah was in the making of the organization. Clearly, it has strayed from its original concept. Elijah mentioned wars, plagues and assignations. Can’t wait to hear more about that.

Best flashback: We had a lot of interesting flashbacks this week and got a lot of insight into the creation of the first regular vampires. Which is why my favorite flashback is the one where Lucien comes back from the dead. First of all, great timing since Klaus was about to set him on fire. Secondly, I loved seeing Elijah and Klaus discuss the power of their blood. These are all things we’re very familiar with now, but that wasn’t the case back then. I always wondered how the first person was turned, since it’s not exactly that easy.

The great return: Josh is back! I wish we’d gotten a little more of an explanation as to what he’s been up to (and a little more of him as well), but alas. He seems to be doing a lot better, although he’s lost some of his innocence. Which, of course, was to be expected. The poor thing has been back a whole two minutes before Aya attacked him. A move which landed her a spot on my ‘I don’t like you’ list, even though I do have to admit that that was one badass entrance.
Most mysterious character: So far we’ve only gotten glimpses of Aurora, but that could change soon seeing as she’s broken free of her ‘prison’. Since sirelines are such a popular topic these day, I can’t help but wonder who turned her. Somehow I don’t see how it could be Elijah, unless Tristan is the one that turned her. But if I had to guess based solely off her behavior, my money would be on either Klaus or Rebekah. Kol would have been a contender had his entire bloodline not been wiped out. Thanks a lot for that, Gilberts.

Who’s the killer? This seems to be the mystery of the season, or at least the first half of the season. I never truly thought Lucien did it. It was too obvious. Which is why I’m not entirely sure it’s the Strix. It just seems too soon to give us real clues. This probably won’t be resolved until the midseason finale. Which leaves me with no actual suspects. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Character I related most to: You’re so going to hate me for this, but I love cranky Hayley. She’s annoyed by the noise outside, she’s irritable, hungry, … basically me on a good day. It’s a shame that she held back with Jackson because I would’ve loved to see him get his ass handed to him. Instead, they started making out. Now this was a bad idea for several reasons. First of all, you’re in a public place. Meaning people could’ve walked in. Hell, Freya could’ve walked in with Hope because she finally got sick and tired of being used as a babysitter. Secondly, that public place happens to be a church. I’m not a religious person, but that’s a line even I won’t cross. And third of all, sweaty vampires have fought and bled all over that boxing ring. That is unbelievably unsanitary.
Best quotes
Elijah: “I will consider it … when Hayley forgives you, Gia rises from the dead and hell freezes over.”
Hayley: “Hey! It’s not jazz fest. Some of us have toddlers who need sleep.” That’s it for this week.

Check in again next week for an all new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
