The Good Wife - Innocents - Advance Preview

The second episode of “The Good Wife” follows Alicia as she continues working in bond court. But she seems to be getting the hang of it a little better now. And bond court presents her with a new client – one who may yield a substantial payment if Alicia can win the case. The client is a young man fighting against nude photos of himself being displayed as art.

New character Lucca Quinn continues working alongside Alicia. She is beginning to prove herself a smart, capable attorney. But the spark in this episode comes from an even newer character introduced on the canvas: investigator Jason Crouse, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Extant,” “Grey’s Anatomy”). Morgan becomes the second series regular added to the show this season. (After Cush Jumbo’s debut as Lucca.) Alicia and Diane are both interested in Jason’s services but he can’t work for both of them.

I must say, I didn’t quite know what to think about this new addition. Jason is flirty with Alicia and they have a fun, unique rapport, so the potential is there as a love interest. But Jason is very different than the type of man Alicia has been attracted to in the past. He doesn’t seem to be her “type.” He is loose and free, irreverent, playful, charming, not-so-serious and kind of a maverick. But he’s also smart and good at his job. I think his character could grow on me pretty quickly. He brings out a different side of Alicia that’s fun to watch. But because he is so opposite most of the formal, buttoned-up lawyers on the show, it was a little surprising to see the direction of this new character. He definitely could add a fresh energy to the show – and that could be a good thing. But will he fit in? Or will his character feel out of place? I remind myself that Kalinda was different than those around her, and it worked well. So for now I’m reserving judgement; I need to see more first.

As for Eli, he is working all his angles this week, trying to secure his job with Alicia and making sure that Peter’s new campaign manager, Ruth, doesn’t get the best of him. This plot was pretty fun to watch. Eli also leads Alicia into a surprising situation.

Over at Lockhart Agos, Cary has a problem with partner Howard Lyman – though who doesn’t, right? But Cary incurs Howard’s wrath when he starts putting pressure on him to change his ways. Is this a game of chicken? If so, who will blink first?

I must say, so far I feel like Diane and Cary’s plotlines haven’t been too interesting. I want to see more of them in substantial stories because right now their plots are boring. I hope the show doesn’t focus so much on the new characters that the old ones get overlooked. So far the balance has been uneven, but I hope that will change.

I enjoyed a scene this week between Peter and Alicia as she lets him know what she wants in the campaign. She really knows how to get her way. I love tough Alicia! Especially with Peter. I also enjoyed Grace once again in this episode as she continues to help her mother.

At the end of the episode someone makes a decision that I found intriguing. It raises some interesting questions. I can’t wait to see what you think.

You can catch “The Good Wife” on Sunday evening at 9/8c on CBS.
