The second episode of Sleepy Hollow's brand spanking new third season hit a lot of right notes for me. How could it not when we literally open the episode up with a domesticated Crane doing household chores and singing a tune. I knew from this very opening that we would be in for a good, fun episode. It's pretty awesome that Abbie and Crane are living together and nice to see Abbie's home and get a bit more personal with the characters than we ever have done. What this season is doing right is exploring the characters and fleshing them out more, which is partly why I love the flashbacks to Betsy Ross and this new development with Abbie and her father. I am so intrigued by both and knowing that we are learning so much more about two of my favourite television characters at the moment.

Pandora really is causing mischief with her box though I thought her identity would be kept secret for a little while longer. What does knowing she exists mean for the witnesses? They now know their enemy so they may go in full steam ahead in trying to get rid of her and we are only 2 episodes in an 18 episode season. I love the possibilities of the evils she will unleash though and I very much enjoyed the Wraith angle of the episode and how it exposed the secrets of Ichabod and Abbie. The introduction of the Wraith in killing that man was quite scary, again like last week's monster, so I really am loving this more gothic approach to the villains. It makes it more entertaining for me when I am scared of what's to come.

The flashbacks were really good too and I find myself enjoying them the more they're featured. I just love being in the past. For a moment, I thought maybe Crane did reveal the names of Washington's spies but of course he didn't, he's our Crane. I liked the Betsy Ross with the Wraith scene too and how she got out of it. It's also important to mention Jenny who was more a side storyline in this episode but it could develop potentially into a big storyline. Joe returns and wants to follow in his father's footsteps, which I find awesome and a great continuity for the show. It will take Jenny on a wild adventure too if they follow it through, though I really missed me some Mills sister action. The Shard of Anubis sounds so interesting too and I hope they can incorporate more intriguing artefacts in the show that will be explored, rather than just mentioned. Also, I loved the fight Jenny had with that guy, was it Randall? "I can walk already. You're the one with the limp."

EPISODE VERDICT

This show is very procedural right now with Pandora unleashing very different monsters each week, which will work for the time being as the show gets through its growing pains, but I kind of miss the more serialised approach of the show in the past. I like that Pandora will be the recurring villain though, I just hope they develop her so much more rather than keep her in the shadows. I also want more Jenny and the artefacts or more scenes with the core two, rather than keep her isolated in her own storyline that may seem redundant if they don't develop it properly. Despite this, I did love the Wraith as a villain and the fight in the warehouse, I thought it was actually a better fight than the premiere's monster. Good developments with Abbie's secret too and the exploration of Ichabod's past. It was a very good episode and I look forward to more episodes that will hopefully raise the bar.

What did you guys think about this episode of Sleepy Hollow? Let me know in the comments and be sure to watch the next new episode on October 15th on FOX!
