CBS opened the week on a winning overnight note, besting No. 2 NBC by six percent. But even the solid sampling for “Supergirl” may not be enough for the Eye net to win the evening in coveted adults 18-49 over the home of “The Voice.”
“Supergirl” out of “The Big Bang Theory” debuted with a 7.9 rating/12 share in the household overnights from 8:30-9:30 p.m., which finished a close third behind “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC and aforementioned “The Voice.” Comparably, this was 37 percent, on average, above “Life in Pieces” (5.3/ 8) and the first half of “Scorpion: (6.2/ 9) one week earlier, and the overnight retention out of “The Big Bang Theory” (#1 for the evening: 10.3/16 at 8 p.m.) was respectable at 76 percent. Keep in mind, of course, that “Supergirl” will be moving into the Monday 8 p.m. hour week, which will result in a potentially notably weaker performance. But out of “The Big Bang Theory” there was ample sampling.
Next on CBS was a 90-minute installment of “Scorpion” at a solid 6.4/10 from 9:30-11 p.m.
On NBC, rock-solid “The Voice” (8.1/12 from 8-10 p.m.) built by eight percent in the overnights from one week earlier despite facing “Supergirl.” And it led into a 5.2/ 9 (#2) for full season-renewed freshman drama “Blindspot” at 10 p.m., which was eight percent above the 4.8/ 8 one week earlier.
Over at ABC, older-skewing “Dancing With the Stars” was on the overnight map with an 8.2/12 from 8-10 p.m., which proves there is more than enough room for three different types of shows to successfully co-exist in a time period. A repeat of “Castle” scored a 3.0/ 5 at 10 p.m. (#3).
It was no contest in the battle of “Supergirl” vs. “Gotham,” with the sophomore Fox drama at a 3.1/ 5 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. One year earlier it scored a 4.3/ 6, and this led into a typical 1.4/ 2 for waiting to be officially axed “Minority Report” at 9 p.m. (#4).
The CW could not compete, meanwhile, with its pairing of recent entry “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (#5: 0.6/ 1) and “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.7/ 1).
