    -Ratings Breakdown:
Note: The Monday Night Football match-up on ESPN was the New York Giants versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

ABC opened this fifth week of 2015-16 on a winning overnight note, but the home of “The Voice,” NBC, is still the network to beat in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics). CBS, meanwhile, was the only network on the year-to-year plus side.

“Dancing With the Stars” opened the night for ABC with a healthy 8.6 rating/13 share from 8-10 p.m., which finished first in households in three of the four half-hours (excluding 8 p.m., which featured “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS at a dominant 9.4/15). Comparably, this was 10 percent above the 7.8/12 one week earlier, and it led into a 4.7/ 8 (#3) for tired “Castle” at 10 p.m. Overnight retention for “Castle” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Dancing With the Stars” (8.6/13) was just 55 percent. ABC would be wise to utilize the female-driven lead-in support from “Dancing With the Stars” on something else at this point.

Leading out of “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS was episode five of sitcom “Life in Pieces” at a third-place 5.3/ 8, which built by eight percent from the 4.9/ 7 one week earlier and increased its retention out of “Big Bang” from 51 percent to 56 percent. But this was still 12 percent below the failed return of “The Millers” on the year-ago evening (6.0/ 9 on 10/20/14). Next week, “Supergirl” debuts at 8:30 p.m. out of “The Big Bang Theory,” preempting “Life in Pieces.”

Over at NBC, rock-solid “The Voice” was on the overnight map with a 7.5/11 from 8-10 p.m., leading into full-season-renewed “Blindspot” at a 4.8/ 8 at 10 p.m. While “Blindspot” will own the time period in all the key demos, it was 13 percent below the 5.5/ 9 one week earlier and 24 percent below former time period occupant “The Black” on the year-ago evening (6.3/10 on 10/20/14).

Elsewhere, the cancellation clock is rapidly ticking on Fox freshman drama “Minority Report,” which sunk to a series-low 1.4/ 2 at 9 p.m. Comparably, that was 50 percent below diluted lead-in “Gotham” (2.8/ 4 at 8 p.m.), which will be creamed by competing “Supergirl” next week. And week two of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” on The CW slipped to a 0.6/ 1 at 8 p.m., which was 25 percent below its already anemic 0.8/ 1 opener last week. Minus any lead-in support, creative worthy “Jane the Virgin” followed with a series-low 0.7/ 1 in the overnights at 9 p.m. Expect in the vicinity of a mere 0.3 rating in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data for both comedic hours.
