-Ratings Breakdown:
Note: The Monday Night Football match-up on ESPN was Pittsburgh versus San Diego.
Each of the big three networks posted minor erosion from one week earlier, with NBC still tops in the household overnights care of “The Voice” (7.9 rating/12 share from 8-10 p.m.) and week four of full season-renewed “Blindspot” (#1: 5.5/ 9 at 10 p.m.).
“The Big Bang Theory” on CBS topped the night with a 9.7/15 at 8 p.m., but lead-out “Life in Pieces” slipped to a third-place 4.9/ 7 at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, overnight retention for “Life in Pieces” out of “The Bang Theory” was only 51 percent, and this was 31 percent below a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” on the year-ago evening (7.1/11 on 10/13/14). Sorry…there is no way to spin that.
Next on the Eye net was sophomore “Scorpion” at a 6.2/ 9 from 9-10 p.m., which trailed the year-ago telecast (7.9/12 with stronger lead-in support) by 22 percent. And it led into deteriorating “NCIS: Los Angeles” at a 5.2/ 9 (#2), which at a 5.6/ 9 in the overnights last week translated into only a 1.2 rating/4 share in adults 18-49.
In series-premiere news, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” on The CW was stalled at the gate at a 0.8/ 1 in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m., which trailed “The Originals” on the year-ago evening (1.0/ 2 on 10/13/14) by 20 percent. Chances are this will translate into only about a 0.5 in adults 18-49.
Next was the season-premiere of compatible “Jane the Virgin” at an also 0.8/ 1, which slipped by 27 percent from the 1.1/ 2 for the series debut on the year-ago evening. Critical acclaim, unfortunately, does not always translate into audience interest.
Over at Fox, diluted “Gotham” (#4: 3.0/ 5 at 8 p.m.) led into a 1.6/ 2 (#4) for week four of doomed “Minority Report,” which just had its episode order slashed from 13 to 10. Expect about a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49 for “Minority Report”.
ABC capped off the night with two more hours of “Dancing With the Stars” at a 7.8/12 from 8-10 p.m. (#2), followed by tired “Castle” at a 4.5/ 8 (#3). Anticipate in the vicinity of a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 for “Dancing With the Stars” and a 1.2 in the demo for “Castle.”
