NCIS - Incognito - Review: "Bishop and McGee go undercover"

NCIS went undercover in last Tuesday's episode. McGee and Bishop played a military couple to get close to the suspects in their case. Additionally, Tony was searching for his roots.

The case starts with Tony and Gibbs being called by Major Newton, who supposedly has information on a closed armory theft. However, upon arriving at Quantico, the agents learn Newton has died while jogging. Abby later deduces that his death was not an accident, but that he was murdered. The team looks into the armory theft case Newton investigated at Camp Lejeune and find out that, besides Newton, there were other military employees that transferred from Lejeune to Quantico. One of them is Marine Master Sergeant Ramsey Dillon, but he was acting in a theater. After the team found a knife in Newton's house, Abby identified a print on that to a woman named Lauren Hudson. She is the wife of Marine Lieutenant Dean Hudson, who had recently moved from Lejeune to Quantico. Gibbs and Tony question the couple, but they claim not to have seen Newton at Quantico. Camerage footage shows they are not telling the truth though, so Gibbs sends Bishop and McGee undercover to find out more.

The two go undercover and move in across the Hudsons. Both Bishop and McGee make contact with them. Meanwhile, Gibbs finds out that Lauren has inherited a lot of money from her deceased father. The family's attorney thinks Dean might be after her money. Also, Abby learns that Lauren recently got a new driver license. While the photo on the new license looks a lot like the photo on the old one, Abby discovers that it is not the same woman. When McGee heads out for coffee with Lauren, he comes across Sergeant Dillon, who calls him an NCIS agent, thereby blowing McGee's cover. In the meantime, Bishop has sneaked into the Hudsons house, but Lauren calls her husband to tell him that the neighbors are undercover agents. Bishop stumbles upon the body of the real Lauren Hudson, but she is attacked by Dean and a fight ensues. Fortunately, Bishop gets the upper hand and stabs Dean with a pair of scissors.

Meanwhile, Bishop tells Tony and McGee she is heading out for a romantic weekend with Jake. When McGee answers Jake's phone call in Bishop's abscence, he spills the beans about their weekend. Unbeknownst to McGee, Bishop kept the weekend a surprise from Jake. Bishop is pretty mad at Tim, but she later tells him that things with Jake are just not the same. At the end, McGee gives Bishop flowers to make up. Also, Jake had to go to some conference during that weekend so it's a good thing the surprise didn't go through.

Also, Tony spent the episode searching for his roots, supposedbly because he is looking for a sense of belonging. It is also revealed he's having relationship issues with Zoë. Tony finds out he is related to Archibald Drummond, 17th Earl of Trent. However, it turns out the man was a thief and a con man, and some even suspected he was Jack the Ripper.

The episode was good, but it was a step down compared to last week. The case was good though there are still some questions I have about it. For example, how did Newton know that his neighbor was pretending to be Lauren Hudson? Did the Hudsons kill him for that reason? Not that we will ever get answers to these questions, but still. I do think the undercover assignment should have taken a bit longer, which would have made it more fun. I don't really see the reason why they would go undercover in the first place, as they didn't really discover something that they wouldn't find out if they had not gone undercover. Something I did not like, was Tony's search for his ancestors. I appreciate the reason why he did it, but it was pretty silly. And of course they had to make Tony look like a clown again. That's not something I want to see again. I hope we soon get to see what issues Tony and Zoë are going through. And I am so very excited to see what the return of Jeanne Benoit will do to Tony. I really cannot wait to see her return to the show.

What did you think of "Personal Day"? Did you enjoy the case? How did you feel about Bishop and McGee going undercover? What issues do you think Bishop and Jake are going through, the same as last year? And what did you think of Tony searching for a sense of belonging? As always, I would love to hear your thoughts on the episode in the comment section below.
