Minority Report - Hawk-Eye - Review

Oct 8, 2015

I didn’t have the greatest things to say about Minority Report’s second episode in my last review, but I’m happy to say that although this episode wasn’t incredible, it was an improvement from the previous episodes and I enjoyed it a lot more.

This week, the new Hawk-Eye program has been put into effect. This program flags certain individuals who seem like they could be dangerous for the public and puts them under 48 hour watch. This whole program is pretty cool but it’s also definitely pretty messed up. Vega is skeptical about using this for police-work but she’s forced to become a part of it by Lieutenant Blake. Conveniently, this program provides a nice cover for Dash to officially become part of the murder-solving team without suspicion. Vega arranges for Dash to apply and be selected as her new Hawk-Eye partner. The way she goes about securing him as her partner is a little bit questionable. She tells her coworker and friend Akeela about Dash being a precog and I can’t imagine that Dash was okay with that. I like Akeela but I’m not sure I would trust her with this secret so soon. However, by the end of the episode I was warming up to having her on the team and I actually think she helps with Vega and Dash’s chemistry and makes their partnership less awkwardly blah.

I also enjoyed the overall story a lot more this week. There were more twists and turns that kept me more engaged and interested in seeing what was going to happen next. This week focused on a non-premeditated murder by a tech giant. They manage to stop him from murdering someone but then are faced with having to stop him from killing himself. This whole story is so strange and they realize it’s because he’s literally not the same person he used to be. He was manipulated by his therapist through brain rewiring technology. It turns out that his business partner was the one who put his therapist up to it, so the person we thought was the killer in the beginning, turned out to actually be the victim.

There was also a lot more interaction between Arthur, Dash, and Agatha during this episode, but especially between Arthur and Dash. The episode began with the brothers hanging out and going on a bike ride. It was kind of everything I’ve wanted for them but it was also happening at the weirdest time. They were just fighting last week and now they’re laughing and having a great time. They should have worked up to this because it felt out of place. During this episode, Agatha shares her most recent vision, which included Vega, with Arthur, who in turn, tells Dash. Nothing really comes of it in this episode but hopefully the fallout of this information will be explored soon in future episodes. They’re really moving the being taken back into precrime storyline very slowly. I feel like each week they give us the tiniest little bit of progress but it’s kind of going nowhere so far, which makes it less exciting to watch and may prevent people from caring enough to tune back in for more episodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode the most so far. I was much more interested in what was happening and I feel like expanding the team helped with the chemistry of the cast. The plot felt much more realistic now that Vega and Dash could actually work together in public. Unfortunately, the writing is still not at a level that I would like. How many times can they remind us that Dash just sees visions and Arthur just gets names? What’s even worse is that they’re telling each other this as if they haven't been experiencing this their whole lives. It’s just incredibly awkward exposition. However, on the bright side, there were no awkward cultural references so that was an improvement at least!

What did you think of this episode? Let me know in the comments and thanks for reading!
