Homeland - Super Powers - Advance Preview: "Claire Danes' Emmy nomination"
Oct 17, 2015
BA Homeland ReviewsWhat do the following Homeland episodes have in common? The Vest, Q&A, The Star and From A to B and Back Again. No? They’re the episodes for which Claire Danes has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress at the Emmys, winning for the first two. Come next July, Super Powers will be added to that list.
Danes is simply magnificent this week. After learning last week that the attack in Lebanon was designed to kill her, Carrie makes it her mission this week to figure out who it is that’s after her. And how will she go about doing that? By going off her medication, of course. That, as you might expect, leads to quite a bit of chaos, and Danes is given license to do quite a bit. It varies between fun and difficult to watch, but it all makes for some fantastic television. I don’t want to spoil too much more but Claire Danes really elevates this episode into the higher tier.
Meanwhile, having received Carrie’s name on his hit list last week, Quinn is on the hunt and Rupert Friend continues to be excellent at portraying that ruthless determination. I’m enjoying seeing Quinn work and Super Powers shows that there’s really no length to which he won’t go to complete his mission.
Unsurprisingly, following Allison’s power play last week, Saul isn’t happy. They have some good scenes together and the tension is built up nicely. While this is happening, the CIA are looking for Carrie and early on in the episode, Saul goes to see Düring, and they share a very entertaining scene. Mandy Patinkin is consistently great to watch during every scene he features in, and Saul’s story has some interesting turns towards the climax.
Atheer Adel’s hacker continues to try and meet with Laura Sutton, with some fun ideas on how to do so. This story is a slow build but I like where it goes in Super Powers, setting things up well for the next few episodes.
Super Powers airs on Sunday 18th October at 9pm on Showtime, and it is must-see.
