Thanks to RD for the heads up.

“I remember shooting it, and it made me crazy that she felt like she had nothing else to hold on to,” Italia Ricci tells TVLine of that stunning final scene. “Even though it might not be the right decision in a lot of people’s eyes, it’s the only one that gives her any power. If she were to go back home and continue treatment, she’d be at the mercy of the hospital and the drugs for the rest of her life. She wants to be in control of however much of the rest of her life she has left, which I thought was really interesting.”

When did you find out that Essen was going to die? Did you know going into the second season?
At the beginning of the season, I knew Essen was going to meet her demise in some way or fashion, but I didn't find out how it would happen until I got the scripts. It really was a great final two episodes that gave the character a great exit.

In her final scene with Jerome, it's clear that she's going out fighting.
Cameron's a super-intense actor — a lovely guy, but it's not hard to imagine the fear that [Jerome] can instill in someone. At the same time, there's a great sense of fortitude you get from playing a character who has developed a strong spine — in playing the scene, I approached it in the same way I do any scene: What do I want? What am I trying to affect in the other person, and that was pretty easy because Cameron really committed in a big way.

As we were getting the episodes, I was collaborating with the producers to tweak the scenes, and in that final scene when Essen says, "That's gonna leave a mark," that was me. I was like, "You know what? I want to go out with more bite."

  • 13:30 - Agents of SHIELD - Season 3 - Chloe Bennet Interview [VIDEO]

  • 13:00 - The 100 - Christopher Larkin Interview
How much has your life changed since you were cast for the role of Monty Green on "The 100"?

For starters, I no longer need to work a day job. I know this sounds trivial, but this is a huge luxury in this industry. I left my job as a busboy to shoot the pilot of "The 100." Before that, I was a doorman / concierge in New York City taking on random theater gigs whenever I could. The financial stability that this series has provided me has by far been the biggest change in my day-to-day existence.

Richard Harmon told us in an interview that from the cast you are most like your character. Would you agree with him there, and which of your co-stars do you think is most like their character?

I'm not sure whether to be offended or flattered by Richard's comment, so I suppose my answer in return is Richard Harmon. Murphy is highly sarcastic. You're never certain whether he's saying something in earnest or just to get a rise out of you. I'm similar to Monty in several ways, but he's far more tech-savvy that I'll ever be. This guy just murdered everyone in Mount Weather by hacking into their system. I still have a flip phone.

You've already shown several faces of Monty, being a good friend, having hallucinations, success, hope... What do you like most about your character and what different sides would you like to play?

Monty is the greatest friend that you could ever hope for on the ground. There's zero doubt about that. But he's loyal to a fault. He's so concerned about the well-being of other people that he often forgets to think about himself. It would be nice to see him take more control over his own destiny / wants / needs / etc.
