Scorpion returns for season two with “Satellite of Love,” written by showrunner Nick Santora and exec-producer Nicholas Wootton and directed by Sam Hill – a familiar name from season one. All of this ensures that this episode feels exactly like the show viewers fell for last season. Sylvester’s (Ari Stidham) hair might be a bit shorter and Paige’s (Katherine McPhee) a little longer, but otherwise not much has changed – in a good way.
Within ten minutes there are 10 million lives at stake – and that’s before the credits roll! Happy (Jadyn Wong) and Toby (Eddie Kaye Thomas) once again team up for a field assignment. Naturally, things don’t go quite as Toby assures Happy they will. Everyone on the team has an important contribution to make – though I felt Cabe (Robert Patrick) was a bit left out of the loop in this episode – though look for a good scene with him and Walter by the end.
The episode introduces the new Homeland Director – Adriana Molina played by Alana De La Garza, who is fresh off playing the lead in the cancelled Forever. It will be interesting to see how De La Garza’s role will play out given that she has also been announced as a regular on the new Criminal Minds spinoff slated for January. I’m not going to lie, the show I was most sad to see not get a second season was Forever. Molina tells the team she wants them to succeed, but it seems like she may have another agenda of her own. Time will tell.
Once the action starts, it continues to ramp up the tension throughout the episode – just as we’ve become used to. Be on the look out for that one, big, final twist! Look for the team to have to get really creative and for more than one of them to be in real jeopardy.
Here are a couple of line teasers – in no particular order – and you’ll have to guess at who said what!
Just keep plunging.
