Scene Of The Week - September 27, 2015 + POLL

Sep 27, 2015

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

Happy Fall TV Season, everyone!

BLINDSPOT, "Pilot", September 21, 2015, Actors: Jaimie Alexander, Sullivan Stapleton and more, The Scenes: The opening sequence & Weller questions Jane Doe about her tattoo & Jane breaks down
Ben L:
The detective was curious as to why his name was tattooed on Jane Doe's back. I loved this scene because it brought many twists and questions on why he is connected to her.
Prpleight: Time Square. Talk about a scene designed to make you grab a bucket of popcorn and settle in.
Darth Locke: The opening. Just a fantastically shot scene! Also picked by Bradley Adams, Laura Markus, Diana Mack and Jamie Coudeville
A Dahne: Jane breaks down. I thought this was an incredibly well-acted scene and very true to the situation.

DOCTOR WHO, "The Witch's Familiar", September 26, 2015, Actors: Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, Michelle Gomez, The Scene: The Doctor reunites with Clara
Justyna K:
There were so many brilliant scenes and interactions in this week's truly fantastic episode of Doctor Who. All the moments with the Doctor and Davros, with Clara and Missy would be worth mentioning in the article. Davros showing emotions to manipulate the Doctor and use the compassion against him only to miss a great flaw in his plan and once again lose with the Time Lord. And then, all the fun and absolutely insane dynamics of the unpredictable Missy and brave, ready to risk her life to save the Doctor, Clara. But I'm going with the scene where the Doctor and Missy find a Dalek with Clara inside and Missy almost gets him to kill his companion. It was such an intense and emotional moment, with everything Clara was saying and the Doctor desperately trying to find her, hoping she's still alive. The actors did such a brilliant job in the episode. Loved how the Doctor figured it all out and reunited with Clara, telling Missy to run. Beautifully done. Kudos to cast & crew! Can't wait for next week.

EMPIRE, "The Devils Are Here", September 23, 2015, Actors: Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, The Scenes: Cookie confronts Jamal & Cookie comes down onto the stage in a cage
Ben L:
After Jamal kicks his own family out of Empire, Cookie slaps him in the face twice! I loved this scene because karma came back to bite him after he acted like a diva to his own family and didn't let his own brother, Hakeem, release his own album to Empire. Also, after what Cookie has done for him, he had the nerve to sass at her in return. Good for Cookie slapping him twice!
Bradley Adams: Cookie comes down onto the stage at the Free Lucious concert in a gorilla costume in a cage.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, "Not Fade Away", September 20, 2015, Actors: Rubén Blades, Kim Dickens, The Scene: Daniel warns Madison of his experience in El Salvador
Geo N:
The scene where Daniel warns Madison of his experience in El Salvador when the sick were taken under the guise of receiving hospitalization, but were instead killed. This is fundamentally what Fear The Walking Dead is trying to convey in the current story arc. It was a great story and you can sense that Madison has doubts about how Travis views the current events as well.

FRESH OFF THE BOAT, "Family Business Trip", September 22, 2015, Actors: Constance Wu and more, The Scenes: Jessica goes too cheap on vacation & Jessica gets a massage
Ben L:
Jessica goes too cheap on vacation including using her son's tooth as an excuse to reduce the hotel bill along with her AAA membership. I loved this scene because Louis wanted her to relax instead of going cheap all the time since they were on vacation. After the hotel bill was charged so much, she still used her cheap ways to lower the bill.
Pablozky21: The best new comedy of the last season comes back at full speed; Jessica is once again the MVP, and it's hard to choose which of her scenes to pick, but I got to pick the one where she gets a massage. She is finally trying to relax and wind down, but even then she can't help but be herself, even when she is starting to let herself go she gotta have her eyes on her purse. Hilarious!

GREY'S ANATOMY, "Sledgehammer", September 24, 2015, Actors: Sara Ramirez, Kelly McCreary and more, The Scenes: Callie's speech to the parents of her two patients & Maggie punches the homophobic mother
Diana Mack:
Callie's speech to the parents of the two girls implicated in the train accident. She spoke with open heart about respecting their children and their sexuality and their love for each other. We know how much Callie was too emotionally involved into the case since she experienced in first person what it felt like being accepted by her own father for her homosexuality.
Jamie Coudeville: I really thought Callie would be the one to lose her temper, never Maggie. I actually cheered when she did it. The more I find out about her character, the more I love her. I've lost count of how many times I wish I could've stood up to my bullies (though maybe not with actual violence).

HEROES: REBORN, "Brave New World", September 24, 2015, Actors: Jack Coleman, Jimmy Jean-Louis, The Scene: Noah accidentally kills The Haitian
Laura Markus:
Noah and Rene have a confrontation and Noah accidentally kills him. Wow. I can't believe they killed off the Haitian in the first episode! This came right out of left field, and I know many fans are upset by this, and I'm no different. This scene was really intense, and it also gave me some slash-ship feelings. Well acted from both parties. Honourable Mention: Luke and Joanne shoot everyone at the meeting of EVOs, and then burn the place down.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, "It's Time to Move On", September 24, 2015, Actors: Viola Davis, Alfred Enoch and more, The Scenes: Annalise confronts Bonnie & Wes stands up to Annalise in class & Annalise goes to Eve's place & The flash forward
Pablozky21:
Let's be honest, How to get away with Murder, Viola Davis owns it in this episode; her Emmy win wasn't in vain since she still delivers on the season premiere. The scene in which she confronts Bonnie for murdering Rebecca showcases great acting and intensity as Annalise clearly doesn't know how to deal with what is going on. In between the murder flashback and the intense dialogue between Annalise and Bonnie this scene became a favorite among many on a very strong season premiere. Let's hope the season keeps it as good!
Diana Mack: Last scene with the flash forward. We see Wes running away in shock, after - presumably - shooting Annalise, and we must think they'll be romantically involved during this season. I wonder what will cause Wes to almost kill Annalise like that - I guess it's just the beginning of a wonderful season. Viola Davis well deserved that Emmy.
Jamie Coudeville: Same. I loved the entire episode, but this is the scene that made me super excited for the entire season. I can't wait to find out what happened.
Laura Markus: Annalise goes to Eve's, crying, and they kiss. Oh my god, this scene though. The reveal of Annalise's bisexuality, and the fact that her and Eve had a prior relationship was excellent. Absolutely stellar acting done by Viola and Famke. Annalise Keating was already an amazing character for an entire season, and she just got even better. Honourable Mention: Connor moves into Oliver's place.
Bradley Adams: Wes stands up to Annalise in class.

MINORITY REPORT, "Pilot", September 21, 2015, Actors: Stark Sands, Meagan Good and more
The Scene: Dash saves Lara's life
Darth Locke
: Dash saves Lara's life, which ultimately results in the death of the former pre-criminal.

RAY DONOVAN, "Poker", September 20, 2015, Actors: Liev Schreiber, Katie Holmes
The Scene: The final scene
Darth Locke:
In so many words, Paige tells her father goodbye, while Ray has brought back the body and sets it ablaze in the dumpster right outside his home, where he will no doubt be arrested.

SCORPION, "Satellite of Love", September 21, 2015, Actors: Alana de la Garza and more
The Scene: Molina tells off the President of the United States
A Dahne:
What a way to introduce a new character. She's already a whole lot better than the antagonistic Merrick and adds a welcome dynamic to the team.

THE BIG BANG THEORY, "The Matrimonial Momentum", September 21, 2015, Actors: Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, The Scene: Leonard and Penny get married
Geo N:
Leonard and Penny finally getting married and reading their vows all while being live-streamed (Which was perfect for the tech savvy BBT characters). Penny using the song from Toy Story for her vows was hilarious.

THE GOLDBERGS, "A Kick-Ass Risky Business Party", September 23, 2015, Actors: Wendi McLendon-Covey and more, The Scene: Beverly does her Tom Cruise Risky Business dance
A Dahne:
This was the single most hilarious moment of the TV week. I had to stop to catch my breath because I was laughing so hard.

THE MIDDLE, "Not Your Brother's Drop Off", September 23, 2015, Actors: Patricia Heaton, Eden Sher, The Scene: Frankie sooths Sue over a walkie talkie
Pablozky21:
The Middle came back as amazing as ever. The comedy is strong and it is still as heart warming as ever. When Sue is upset because her drop off is not going as well as she expected and her mother is apparently fine with her going to college, Frankie opens up about her feelings and lets her know that she will be dearly missed. It's the type of nice, warm feeling The Middle is known to deliver with grace and once again it doesn't disappoint. God! I'm so glad this show is back.

THE PLAYER, "Pilot", September 24, 2015, Actors: Philip Winchester and more, The Scene: Mom helps Alex as he tries to find her daughter
Prpleight:
Mom lends a helping hand to Alex as he tries to find her daughter. Alex discovers that one of the parent's security guards is working with the men who kidnapped the couple's daughter. Mom jams a knife into the security guard's hand, twists it, and demands the man answer all questions promptly. He does. People don't liken mothers to lionesses protecting their cubs for nothing.

THE STRAIN, "Dead End", September 20, 2015, Actors: Richard Sammel, Ruta Gedmintas and more, The Scene: Dutch escapes
Prpleight:
Dutch is about to die but escapes. First of all...ewwww...Just everything about the way Eichorst was about to feed on her. And a bricked up building is just creepy! It takes a lot to creep me out. Yeesh.
Geo N: Same and also the rescue when Fet, Nora and Eph use dynamite to get through the wall to get to Dutch and how happy she is to see them.
