Rizzoli and Isles Episode612 – 5:26
Written by Michael Sardo
Directed by Greg Prange

Last week’s episode closed on Jane being made aware not only was someone closing her accounts and trying to hack into her life but a video was sent showing someone holding up a lighter outside Jane’s apartment. The fire wasn't an accident someone is clearly after Jane………
This week it’s a race against the clock to find who , what and why someone has once again targeted the Detective but as time runs out and we fear something bad will happen, it leaves us with a cliff hanger that raises more questions than answers.

‘I won’t let you down’ are the parting words of a young woman as she closes her apartment door to someone. She is dancing around holding up an envelope of cash that may have just been left. Putting it away she suddenly starts convulsing and drops to the floor.

Maura (Sasha Alexander) is staring at the video of the lighter being held up outside Jane’s apartment, clearly worried.
Jane (Angie Harmon) is stood in front of her desk and closes her laptop to stop her viewing it again. Maura is asking why Jane isn't worried, Jane reasons they would have hurt her while in the apartment if they could have got into it as they did. Maura is not convinced and knows next time it will be worse, as does Jane it won’t just be bank accounts being closed. They clearly are both on edge, Jane tells Maura she doesn't want Angela to know, she wants her to practice her new skill of lying. Maura promises and her phone rings it is a homicide, Jane is shocked her phone doesn't ring and shakes it.

Upstairs Janes asks Korsak to wait as he is heading out, Korsak (Bruce McGill) tells Jane she has to stay and pull files on those who may have a beef with her. Jane isn't happy she has to stay.

Maura is doing an examination of the body. It’s the young woman from earlier. Korsak thought it was a sad story but the track marks on her arms are healed. Frankie (Jordan Bridges) notices something on her other arm. Maura describes it as a beautiful butterfly tattoo. Maura also tells them her foaming around the mouth indicates a drug overdose probably from Cocaine. Frankie finds the envelope of money but Korsak mentions there is not obvious drug paraphernalia, no cocaine residue around the nose, Maura suggests she may have injected somewhere else so as to not be seen. Korsak asks her show size. She probably was a 7. He has found a size 12 shoe print on the rug looks like a man’s. They need to find out who was there.

Jane is bored she is stuck at the photocopier much too some other officers annoyance. Nina approaches (Idara Victor) she has found something interesting; Jane has learned people are impatient. No news there Jane. She was printing out all the email threats to her. It’s a lot. Nina wants her to meet her in the BRIC when she is done.

When Jane is threated her sarcasm goes up and she was a bit sarcastic to Nina who is only helping, bad Jane. Nina has discovered more in the video. This shuts Jane up….. Being a tech wiz Nina has managed to pull up the full image and we see a butterfly tattoo on the wrist. (There was a long technical explanation).
Frankie walks in asking if that is Leanne Samson, the victim and also it would seem to be Jane’s arsonist.
Jane checks her emails, none from Leanne Samson, none mention arson or hacking. Frankie comes in seems the victim and now arsonist was paroled two months ago for petty theft. Jane has had no contact with her. Seems Leanne was in and out of group homes became a drug addicted adult but was sober for the last six months, Frankie explains that the condition of her parole was she was tested every week. No connection to Jane other than the fact she burned down her apartment. Korsak suggests someone hired her that would explain the cash in her apartment. Nina cracks Leanne’s phone there are lots of text from a Tom Hobart. From the texts looks like a boyfriend but they ended four weeks ago, just before she torched Jane’s place. Seems they need to talk to him. Maura calls Jane to come down to the morgue.

Down in the morgue
Jane: “You rang...ish"
Maura “I have a surprise for you “
Jane: “Doctor Frankenstein you shouldn't have"

Maura has acquired what was left of Jane’s front door; she has discovered the lock was picked. Jane had a tough lock but this was good lock picker. Which rules out a drug addict with no breaking and entering prior’s. Maura is worried about Jane; whoever is doing this is smart. Jane gets all defensive again.

Maura asks Korsak to come to her office, she asked him not to tell Jane. Maura has drawn up a psychological profile of the person who is after her. Korsak says the arsonist, Maura corrects him the person who hired the arsonist and possibly the Hacker. She has ruled out Leanne Samson.
‘The person has access to money, is good at manipulating people, very smart and very unpredictable’
Maura offers to pay for a bodyguard for Jane she doesn’t want Jane to know. Korsak won’t remove Jane out of commission as she is the best chance of finding who did this. Maura doesn't look happy as Korsak leaves.

Frankie talks to Leanne’s boyfriend, it’s soon very clear he isn’t involved .He says she broke it off for some new guy with money but he wasn't her boyfriend just someone she worked for. She never said what she did for the money or tells him his name.

Angela visits Jane and instantly senses something is wrong and tells Jane she loves her before Jane leaves.

In the crime lab Jane is talking to Maura. The victim Leanne had five balloons of cocaine in her stomach. Jane thinks she may have been a mule. Maura noticed each of the balloons had a hole in the top, they were supposed to leak. Jane points out there are easier less expensive ways to kill someone. It’s strange but what is strange is there is a sixth balloon with less cocaine and a watch in it.
A small watch for a girl or woman and the battery was removed so it was set for a time 5:26 which is within half hour of the estimated time of death. Jane looks at the watch; Maura says it has date set as well the 26th which is tomorrow. Jane recognizes the watch as her own.

Korsak briefs everyone the killer of Leanne Samson is the one after Jane, they have until 5:26 tomorrow. It’s a clear message. Jane walks in on the briefing wondering what is going on.

Korsak and Jane exchange words, Jane doesn’t want to be pushed out. Korsak needs to keep her safe and can’t work and keep an eye on her. In walks a guy, Korsak explains he is her bodyguar, Boris Martin (Damon Dayoub). Korsak says whoever is targeting Jane will expect police protection. Jane can’t believe the department is paying for a bodyguard. Korsak dodges the answer (we all know who is paying). The tension of the scene is lifted when Jane walks into the bodyguards back.

In the elevator he asks Jane about her living arrangements she says she is living with her brother ( no further mention of her condo ) temporarily , he says she may have to move which Jane is happy about.

Maura comes upstairs having Just missed Jane and speaks to Frankie and asks about the investigation. Frankie question everyone at the halfway house, they knew Leanne had a new guy but no one has seen him.
The balloons in her stomach are from a shoe store that closed down eight years ago (I am guessing that’s a clue??) Frankie is frustrated he keeps running into a wall. Maura reassures Frankie and says maybe He isn't a he?? It gives Frankie an idea.

Jane's Bodyguard, Boris is taping the windows at Frankie's and stops Jane from ordering pizza... I thought this was a bit silly as Jane being a cop would not jeopardize herself this way. He offers to cook for Jane.

Frankie gets collared by Angela, yes he tells her about Jane.

Boris is a master chef it seems and cooks for Jane who is irrtated and bored. Angela arrives and we know she knows but Jane still keeps it cool, well so she thinks. Angela’s parting words to Boris made me smile.
Angela: “Boris work friend of Jane’s if something happens to my daughter I will kill you dead. Now give a kiss to mama. Give it up"

Jane is chatting to Nina via video link; obviously she can’t keep out of it. She is asking about people who may be following her.
Maura walks in as they are talking and tells Nina to tell her. She pulled footage from before the fire, the same guy was behind her twice. The guy’s name is Frank and works in the building Jane describes him as a good guy (Possible suspect or red herring ...I wonder) they have nothing really. Maura tells Nina says if Jane asks for anything else she might want to tell Korsak but we know she probably won’t.

They all pulled an all-nighter, the next morning Frankie is at the prison where Leanne was held. The governor I assume hasn’t had much contact with the prisoner introduces someone who has.
Joe Harris (Paul Schulze, Fans of 24 will recognise him) Prison Psychiatrist, introduces himself to Frankie who says who he is in return. She leaves them to talk. He starts off saying he heard about Leanne’s death he thought she was on a good path. He gave her counselling on how to live a better life. She had not had any visitors and was determined not to come back to prison. When Frankie asks did she ever mention a detective Rizzoli he says no and why would she mention you and points to Frankie.

Frankie’s apartment building is evacuated; Jane is in Frankie’s apartment with Boris, police are all around. Jane once again isn’t being very smart standing by the window. Time ticks on 5:26, then its 5:27 Jane looks at Boris’s watch and notices the numbers look like letters or a code. She realises the watch is not a clock it’s a code she needs to get to BPD. Korsak wants her back upstairs but Jane isn’t having it. They take her back to the station.

Someone is trying to rip apart Jane’s life but why? What does 526 26 mean? Frankie and Jane go at it and he storms out. Nina says she will keep looking at the combination see if she can find anything. Korsak leaves Jane to stare at the Board. We all feel Jane’s frustration.

Frankie goes to the Dirty Robber and talks to his mother about Jane and him. He tells her Jane does not realise how worried he is about her. Jane doesn’t know how to act when she is scared. Angela has to leave she has been working to take her mind of things but it’s time to head home.

Jane is sat on the couch in Maura’s office, Maura offer’s it to rest on, she can work in the lab but Jane refuses. She talks to Maura is the stress of the Job worth it .She asks Maura would she like to do something else. Maura replies get an engineering degree or go to Maine and write Mystery novels( a nod to Author Tess Gerritsen who wrote the Rizzoli and Isles books the TV series is based on ). Jane can’t see herself doing anything else. Maura offers words of advice saying in crisis is not a time to make decisions

Maura: “Maybe it would help if you lean into the discomfort”
Jane: “the same way you lean into stilettos "
Maura: “Yes except the leaning in your about to do doesn't make your butt look great"

Jane shakes herself out of it and Maura tries to make her stay still worried about her.

Back Upstairs Jane starts taking everything down but stares at the last picture of the watch everything else is the past, Nina says the watch is past as well but Jane doesn't think so 52626...Jane asks for her bible out of her desk draw. ‘Matthew 5:26 26 truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.’
It is about revenge but the question is who...Jane says he has taken everything there is nothing left to take. Nina assures her she is safe at the BPD. Jane says the watch was a gift on the back it was engraved love Ma... She calls her mother but gets no answer. Nina says she will call the dirty robber. Jane calls Frankie he says there mother left and heads out after her. Jane tells Korsak they have to get to Maura’s as he is after ma, she tells him about the bible verse Korsaks tells her if you reverse it its 26 5 26 the penal code for kidnapping.

Maura is in her office when she receives a phone call; A Homicide, she states she is on her way.

Korsak and Jane are entering Maura’s house guns drawn , Jane goes out to the guest house and it’s our first time of seeing inside. She hears a noise and points her gun. Its Angela coming out of the bathroom and she gets a scare from Jane.
Jane explains what happened to Angela who says she knows, then Jane breaks down as she explains about the watch her mum gave her when she made junior cadet. Angela hugs her and then offers to make them some tea.

Maura arrives at what appears to be a crime scene.

As they head into Maura’s Korsak scares them. I agree Chamomile tea is in order to calm everyone down. Korsak asks for it in a scotch glass as does Jane.

Maura looks around and can’t see anyone in the one unmarked cop car (ok I would be a bit suspicious now)

Back at Maura’s they are all drinking scotch when Frankie knocks, Jane lets him in he goes and hugs his mother. Jane looks worried and gets her phone out asking if Maura was at the office. She isn't answering.

Maura shouts hello and then looks at her phone a missed call from Jane , Maura is suddenly grabbed from behind and a cloth we can assume with something to knock her out is put over her mouth.
Her phone is dropped (yes and by some miracle the screen did not crack) we see Jane's face as she is clearly calling Maura again.
To be continued …………

All round I thought it was an edgy suspense filled episode. Jane was in character for how she reacts in these situations. All the clues were clearly to mislead or did they? Watching it again I have a clear theory of who our killer may be. There is one person who would have had access to certain individuals. They also fit the profile Maura gave us. The only question is why? What has Jane done to warrant such revenge? As for kidnapping Maura apart from her closeness to Jane is there another reason. Was it some case they both worked on together? One thing I can say with certainty Maura will be saved otherwise there would be no Rizzoli and Isles.

Please post you thoughts and theories in the comments below. We have a long wait until we get some answers.
