Masters Of Sex - Surrogates - Review

6 Sept 2015

In last week's episode we saw Virginia grow closer to Dan as she pulled away from Bill more and more. Bill starts to grow suspicious of Dan and decides he no longer wants Dan in the Master and Johnson Practice. That was a great episode last week with a interesting case where Bill and Virginia take on a patient that is much different from their other patients. This time their patient was a gorilla. As much as I enjoyed last week's Masters of Sex episode, this week's episode, titled Surrogates, was even better!
Dan and Virginia go on a little get away to Las Vegas as Dan had some business to attend to there. It’s interesting to watch Virginia push Bill away. For the longest time I always thought that Bill and Virginia were perfect for each other and I loved how Bill seemed kind and caring when it came to her. In this episode I couldn’t help but root for Dan. Even though he’s married I find myself enjoying this storyline. I have no doubt that when Bill finds out everything is going to come to a head and the Bill and Virginia dynamic will be forever changed! In so many ways Dan and Bill are alike. Both are very business orientated, both married men cheating on their wives, both treat Virginia as an equal and not just as a silly woman who’s only worry should be to tend to the house. All these things make it obvious why Virginia would be attracted to Dan, but it’s the fact that he listens to her and seems to really value her that sets him apart from Bill and that's what has me on team Dan.

It wasn’t too long ago that I was mentioning that I wished I knew what happened to Austin. Well, he finally came back last episode and it was good to get some answers on his whereabouts during this episode. Things aren’t going well for him at all! The diet pill business went under, he made a bunch of poor investments, lost custody of his kids, and was being sued for all the false claims he made about the diet pills. It’s great to see him back and even better to see him in the storyline of trying to help Betty and Helen. Betty has to be my favourite character in the show as she is the core of the comic relief. It makes me mad that Bill won’t help Betty and Helen, especially when Betty has been by Bill’s side for so long. I’m hoping that if they still need his help that he will change his mind.

Another long awaited moment was finding out what was really going on with Libby. We have been seeing her toy with the idea of leaving Bill, see her escaping to Joy's apartment, and now we see her having an affair with Paul. Thankfully Paul was really pushy about trying to come to terms with whats going on between him and Libby, she opens up, and we get to the root of things. Libby has been grieving over the death of Robert. There had been hints that something happened to him but it wasn’t until now that we know what it was. Robert was hit by a car and Libby has been trying to cope with the fact that she lost him and that they never had the chance to say goodbye. I can’t say that I’m a big fan of Paul but it’s great to discover more of what's going on with Libby. I hope that we get more and more of this storyline!

While Virginia was on her secret mini-vacation with Dan, Bill was going through with the surrogates study. I have nothing but bad feelings about this, especially with that young woman Miss Everett in the program. I’m getting the feeling that something is going to happen between her and Bill but like everything else in this show only time will tell! In the meantime I’m anxiously awaiting the next episode. What about you?
