Masters Of Sex - Party Of Four - Review

Happiness was short lived in this episode! I knew that it would be but you always hope to be surprised. Now if you missed any episodes of this show I’d say that you need to go back and watch them. As we have seen in the past, Masters Of Sex is not a show where you can skip episodes. You don’t know what you're going to miss especially considering episodes can take place over many months, or even years. I can’t say that I’m fond of the episodes that skip ahead many years but it’s important to the storyline, just like this episode, Party of Four. The episode took place over an evening. In a such short period of time you’d think not much could happen, but that’s the complete opposite.
The first half of the episode was all setup for the spiralling downfall that would happen later. I knew right away that Bill was up to something with the surprise dinner with Dan Logan and his Wife that he had dragged Virginia to. We all knew that day was coming but I for one didn’t expect it to go down like this. I don’t know if Bill got the results that he was looking for. I really enjoyed the first few moments of Bill being all secretive about the dinner. I even enjoyed when the four of them sat down for dinner and were toasting to each other. It wasn’t long after that that things became apparent that this was a game changer. Bill pushed things too far and I don’t think that Virginia will be forgiving him anytime soon. I loved how Dan called Bill out on his actions. He hit the nail on the head when Dan told Bill that if instead of spending so much time planning things out and trying to always be steps ahead, that if he had just simply told Virginia that he was in love with her that they wouldn’t be in the position they are in. It’s funny that even though Bill is a very smart man that he couldn’t have figured that out on his own.

Many times I go back and forth on whether I like and respect Libby. Last episode I really liked her and was happy that she was going to leave Bill. My thoughts were, finally! Now in less than one episode she’s decided not to. I’m kind of shocked about it too. I know that it wouldn’t look right with the new claims of Bill being inappropriate with Dennis but this just seems like an excuse to me. It’s a shame because it was nice to see her and Paul together and for a brief moment she seemed really happy. I hope that she doesn’t change her mind because I’ve been waiting for that moment when she tells Bill that she’s no longer going to pretend anymore and that she was leaving him. One of the most heart wrenching scenes from this episode was when Libby tells Paul that she’s scared of Bill not caring that she’s leaving him. That was so raw and understandable that she’d feel that way. However, I think that now that Bill has lost Virginia, Libby leaving him would have an impact on him.

I knew that Bill interacting with Dennis wasn’t a good idea because of his relationship with Johnny but I didn’t see the investigation of Bill’s relationship with Dennis coming. It was a shock actually. Things might end up being worse for Bill in the end of this season then I had initially thought. I can’t wait to see what happens but at the same time I’m a little worried for Bill’s sake. Will Virginia and Dan move forward with their relationship? Will Libby leave Bill? Will Bill get in trouble with the law? So many questions. What do you think will happen?
