The First Date - Story 1:
The pilot begins with Matt (Thomas Sadoski) and Colleen (Angelique Cabral) at her apartment after a night out together. They see her ex-fiancĂ©, Chad in her apartment. He still hasn’t gotten over her. You all will be surprised to know why Chad is still in her apartment. To avoid any awkward moments with him, Matt suggests to go to his parent’s (Dianne Wiest and James Brolin) house. At the end of this story, something crazy happens between the couple. What I loved most about the story was the chemistry between the couple. It’s like they’ve known each other since childhood.
The Delivery – Story 2:
Greg (Colin Hanks) and Jen (Zoe Lister-Jones) are now first-time parents. The way she reacts about her child and scream was the best part of the pilot. This was my favorite story because it portrayed how first-time parents react to their first child in real life.
The College Tour – Story 3:
Heather (Betsy Brandt) and Tim (Dan Bakkedahl) takes their oldest son, Tyler for a college tour. During this, their oldest daughter struggles through something that most adolescent girls go through.
The Funeral - Story 4:
It's not what you all think. John (James Brolin) celebrates his birthday with a mock funeral. He brings his whole family together. This was such a funny but also sweet ending to the pilot.
Overall:
The chemistry between the families click very well. I recommend giving it a look because of the all-star cast. There were flaws to the pilot. For example, Heather and Tim’s storyline could do better especially with their children (Tyler, Samantha, Sophia) getting better screen time. Also, I felt that this should have been a dramedy (42 minutes like Glee and Parenthood) instead of 21 minutes due to the big cast. Still, the all-star cast does a pretty solid job for different stories in 21 minutes. For now, this should work as a sitcom.
