A great sign that you’re watching a captivating show is when you find yourself constantly asking why things are happening, and what their meaning is. I find myself doing that all the time for The Whispers and especially in this episode, Darkest Fears. For starters, it’s never a good sign when we’re introduced to a new child and as we're nearing the end I’m watching for the child that Drill is going to host in. Will it be this new child, Nicholas? It doesn’t look like it but what was Drill's plan for him? We watch the hour show unfold as Claire, Wes, and Jessup put a plan into motion to finally capture Drill. Just as you think they’re getting close to tricking Drill, he gets Nicholas into the house and threatens to host in him if they don’t let him go.
The whole hour was very suspenseful but I really enjoyed the scene where Wes and Claire had to make the decision on whether to let the boy be taken over by Drill or lose the chance at destroying him. Obviously they couldn’t let anything happen to the boy but we all know that things were about to get worse for them now that Drill is back to consuming more energy. The whole time Wes and Claire were working on their plan to trap Drill we see Sean and Henry stuck in the middle of the power outage. Again another intense scene, just as I thought they were in the clear - BAM! Sean and Henry get hit from the side leaving Henry pinned in the car. I have to ask, was that part of Drill's plan? Or did they just have some really bad luck? Sometimes I’m able to guess when certain things are happening and others times I’m not. For example, I haven’t figured out why Henry is all of a sudden getting sick. Is that going to lead to something bigger later on or was he sick so that they would be caught in the middle of the blackout? Like I said, this show leads me to asking a million questions and waiting for the answers.
I loved how Lena came up with the idea to take Minx on a cruise so that Drill wouldn’t be able to reach them. The only thing is, she should have came up with that idea a while back. They didn’t end up being able to go on the cruise due to the blackout and they end up getting a ride with a mysterious man. Now, I have to question who was that guy and what was he up to? I’m sure that will unfold later on.
Darkest Fears was one of my favourite episodes of The Whispers. The reason being I loved the ending! It was a heartbreaking scene when Wes discovers Lena on the floor and he picks her up and breaks down. Originally, I wasn’t Lena’s biggest fan but I was warming up to her. I’m pretty confident that Lena is dead but once I saw the preview for the next episode I’m not 100% certain. Is Lena gone? What do you think?
Another big question I found myself asking at the end was “Is Minx Drill now?” It’s possible that she was in shock and that's why she was standing at the front door but it did seem a little weird. It would be such a good plot twist if she was Drill and no one knew. Do you have any answers to these questions? What do you think will happen next?
