The Whispers - Darkest Fears - Advanced Preview: “Blackout”
10 Aug 2015
KS Reviews The WhispersAs the promo for tonight’s new episode of The Whispers states, we now know what it takes to kill Drill but is the team really willing to go that far? They will be forced to answer this question and more tonight and honestly, this episode gets crazy. The beginning is slow to warm up but by midway so many characters’ lives hang in the balance and things get very intense. It definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat! Almost every character is put in danger at some point, and not just the typical, every week danger that we’ve been seeing. I mean “not sure who will live or die” danger. Unlike a lot of shows, The Whispers isn't afraid to let someone go and by the end of the episode one of the main characters loses their life in the fight against Drill.
This week, Claire and Wes find out an unexpected weakness of Drill’s which could lead to his downfall. With this new information they think they have found a way to trap and kill Drill before he has the chance to possess a child. Because Drill travels through power lines and relies on electricity to survive, they think that a city-wide blackout will allow them to trap him in an area that they can control and eventually starve him of the energy he needs to survive. The only problem with this plan is that the repercussions open them up to new dangers that they didn’t anticipate. Their plan is further complicated when Drill manipulates another child into helping him get out of the blackout situation. This puts Claire and Wes in even more danger when they have to perform a risky rescue mission, made even creepier because they are trying to find something that they can’t naturally see. While all this is going on, Lena decides to take Minx on a cruise to get her away from Drill, which is the best idea she’s ever had. I’m surprised it took her this long with how totally creepy Minx has been this whole time. Also, the mystery of Drill continues with a couple of new mysterious characters that are introduced in this episode with very little explanation. I’m looking forward to seeing what they know and how they tie in to the fight against Drill.
This is probably the darkest episode so far and I actually found it rather scary and intense at times. The writing and acting in this episode were good but the real standout was Barry Sloane (Wes), who has some great emotional scenes throughout. The Whispers has been one of my favorite new shows of the summer season and this episode did not disappoint. It’s truly a can’t miss episode so make sure you tune in to ABC, Monday night at 10pm!
