The Whispers - Broken Child - Review

AL Reviews The WhispersThis week's episode of The Whispers, titled Broken Child, was riveting. It was definitely worth waiting two weeks! I shouldn’t be surprised that the deeper we get into the plot of this show the more invested I get. I loved this episode and I’m on the edge of my seat wondering how everything is going to end as we approach the season finale in a few weeks.
It’s funny how sometimes when you’re watching a show that you see something happening and you just know it’s not going to be good. Well, that happened when Jessup got in the elevator. I was thinking the moment the elevator doors started to close, “What is he doing?" Really he should have known better then to get in a elevator but the tipping point was when the little girl joined him. Even though that wasn’t a smart move on his part it was an intense scene that fit well in the episode. I love how this show captures a creepy side to all of these kids. Normally I wouldn’t find them creepy unless I was watching a horror film but with the music, camera angles, and their mannerisms I find it very disturbing. Speaking of kids, what happened to Henry? The last time we saw him he was in the car waiting for his parents. Did I miss them mentioning where he was?
Though I love this show, it did bother me that Lena shooting Thomas was basically swept under the rug, except for the fact that Wes said that they will pay for it later and that Lena was having a difficult time with her decision. She wasn’t arrested or even questioned about it. Maybe it bothers me because that seems like they are opening the door for all kinds of important things to happen in future episodes that will just be brushed aside. I know it's a show, but it just doesn’t seem right that Lena can just shoot someone and walk away without any consequences. There were other things that bothered me and maybe you as well. For example, how’d Wes, Lena and Claire know where the tree was where Thomas killed Elliot? I consider that a small enough detail to overlook though. Especially considering I really enjoyed most of the episode, including the nail biting scene where Sean tried to stop Drill from killing Thomas. I thought for sure that he was going to break into the room just in time to stop it. Sadly, I was wrong.
I mentioned that I saw the elevator scene coming but in this show and mostly throughout this episode I was surprised. I don’t know how I didn’t see the fact that Wes, Claire, and Lena were being followed. To think back on it I should have known that they wouldn’t have just let them go without keeping an eye on them. Even they should have known that! It was very clever to have Claire say that they couldn’t tell anyone how to kill Drill because that would endanger their children, only to see that Frommer had them followed and could hear what they were saying. It’s a brilliant plot twist to have that the only way they can kill Drill is by killing the child that he hosts in. I wonder how that’s going to play out! I’m even more curious to see who Drill decides to host. Will it be Minx, Henry, the President’s little girl or someone we haven’t met yet? Anyone care to take a guess?
With the episodes getting more and more captivating, I just can’t wait to see what’s next! What about you?
