“I’ve got one season and I’m playing it out. I only wanted to do one season. 00:00 - Galaxy Quest - Series in development at Amazon
Paramount Television’s TV series take on cult sci-fi comedy feature Galaxy Quest has been set up at Amazon where it is in early stages of development. The project, originally put together in the spring, is based on the 1999 DreamWorks movie about the cast of a long cancelled space TV show who become reluctant real space heroes when they are accidentally transported to a spaceship and tasked with saving an alien nation.
Like most Paramount TV series projects based on library titles, Galaxy Quest is being adapted with key auspices from the film on board. That includes the feature’s writer, Robert Gordon — who is writing the TV version — director, Dean Parisot, and producer Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad). The three executive produce along with Johnson’s Gran Via Prods. partner Melissa Bernstein. The series is in early stages, so its concept is still being worked out. No talent is attached.
Galaxy Quest, a sendup of classic TV series Star Trek, starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni and introduced young Justin Long in his feature debut. The film has been embraced by sci-fi fans, quickly achieving a cult status.

00:00 - Difficult People - Renewed for 2nd Season by Hulu
HULU RENEWS DIFFICULT PEOPLE FOR SEASON TWO
Hit Amy Poehler-produced Comedy Starring Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner from Universal Cable Productions will return for Second Season on Hulu
SANTA MONICA, CA – August 27, 2015 – Hulu Original Difficult People has been picked up for a second season, the company announced today. Season two will include a 10-episode order. Following a critically acclaimed debut, the breakout comedy series from executive producers Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation), Dave Becky (Louie), Tony Hernandez of Jax Media and showrunner Scott King will return for a second season with creator, star and executive producer Julie Klausner and star Billy Eichner. The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions (UCP), a division of NBCUniversal.
“We have been big fans of Difficult People from day one and are so happy to have Julie and Billy be part of the Hulu family. I cannot wait to see what a whole new season will bring and am pleased to bring more of their hilarious brand of comedy to fans,” said Craig Erwich, SVP, Head of Content, Hulu.
"From our first meeting with Julie, Billy and Amy, to the spec pilot we shot with them, to Hulu's spectacular and ongoing commitment, this has been a dream of a show. And I'm not just saying that because I'm afraid of them," said Jeff Wachtel, President, Universal Cable Productions and Chief Content Officer, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.
Difficult People hails from Julie Klausner (Billy on the Street) who stars alongside Emmy®-nominated Billy on the Street host Billy Eichner. As best friends living in New York City, their typical, irreverent behavior lands them in some very awkward situations. Klausner and King wrote all episodes of season one and will continue to serve as executive producers for the series.
"I'm the luckiest girl in the world to be able to make more episodes of Difficult People,” said Klausner. “This must be what it feels like to win the lottery, have a fast metabolism or win an Oscar for My Cousin Vinny."
The second season of Difficult People comes to Hulu in collaboration with Universal Cable Productions. Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions in conjunction with Dave Becky’s 3 Arts Entertainment and Jax Media will continue to produce the series.
Hulu’s growing slate of original programming includes straight-to-series pick-up orders for The Way (wt), a drama series from Jason Katims’ True Jack Productions starring Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan and Hugh Dancy; CASUAL, a comedy series from Jason Reitman; 11/22/63, an original event series from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, based on Stephen King’s best-selling book and starring James Franco; season four of the acclaimed comedy series The Mindy Project; and RocketJump: The Show from YouTube sensation and star and creator of Videogame High School, Freddie Wong.

00:00 - Empire - Being Sued By Jon Astor-White For Stealing Idea
Imagine "Empire" with Shaft in the lead role ... that was the vision one guy had, but it never got made ... and now he believes the creators of the show owe him $500 million for stealing his idea.
A guy named Jon Astor-White is suing EPs Danny Strong and Lee Daniels -- as well as Imagine Entertainment and 21st Century Fox -- claiming he shopped around a show called "King Solomon" back in 2007 ... which bears a lot of similarities to "Empire."
Astor-White claims his show would have starred Richard Roundtree (Shaft said no thanks) and was about a record executive and his family and their battle over control of the company.
Astor-White said he faxed the treatment around, and included a proposed cast list which was aspirational, to say the least. In addition to Roundtree, Astor-White wanted Diahann Carroll, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, John Goodman, George Hamilton and Angie Dickinson.
Astor-White describes his show as "the style and elegance of 'Dynasty' meets 'The Sopranos' with a sprinkling of 'The Godfather.'" That's a similar comparison Marvin Gaye III made in his claim.

00:00 - Episodes - BBC drops out as co-Producer
There will be a behind-the-scenes change on the showbiz-centric comedy Episodes. Since its inception, the show, starring Matt LeBlanc, has been a co-production between the BBC, Showtime and UK’s Hat Trick Productions. Heading into the series’ upcoming fifth season — fully expected to be the Episodes‘ final run — the BBC has dropped as a co-producer. Showtime will foot the bill for the comedy, co-producing it with Hat Trick.
There will be no changes in the creative/producing team of the show or its British network home. Creators David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik will continue to write every episode and executive produce with Hat Trick’s Jimmy Mulville. BBC 2, which has carried the first four seasons, also will air Season 5, this time licensing Episodes as it would do any show it doesn’t produce. Showtime now has the exclusive rights to air and distribute the series.
Because of its previous status as BBC-Showtime co-production, the majority of production on Episodes has been done in the UK, with a few weeks of filming in LA. It hasn’t been decided yet whether production will continue to be based in London under the new arrangement.
