20:20 - Blood Will Out - Limited Series in Development at TNT
TNT is developing Blood Will Out, an eight-hour limited series from Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein’s Vendetta Productions and TriStar Television. This marks the first limited series project from Sony’s recently relaunched TriStar TV banner to be set up at a network.
Written by Turner and Walter Kirn, Blood Will Out is an adaptation of Kirn’s autobiographical book Blood Will Out: The True Story Of A Murder, A Mystery, And A Masquerade. It chronicles the 10-year friendship between Kirn and German con artist Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, who went by the name Clark Rockefeller. Sheldon, Klein and Kirn executive produce the project, which was taken out last month.

04:45 - Sesame Street - Moving From PBS To HBO

The non-profit producer of public television’s “Sesame Street” and HBO announced a unique and surprising partnership Thursday morning, in which the premium subscription network will air the next five seasons of the Emmy-winning, Muppet-populated educational series for children. New episodes of “Sesame Street” could start airing and streaming on HBO’s TV and Internet platforms as early as this fall.
Those new episodes of “Sesame Street” will continue to be available to PBS and its member stations, which have considered the show a mainstay of their schedules since it debuted in November 1969. The PBS stations will be able to air the show — now free of charge, HBO says — nine months after HBO airs them.
The deal is a boon to the non-profit Sesame Workshop (which until 2000 was known as the Children’s Television Workshop); with HBO’s financial backing, Sesame Workshop said it can produce almost twice as many episodes as it has in previous seasons, according to a joint statement from executives at both companies.
Sesame Workshop CEO Jeffrey D. Dunn said the deal “represents a true, winning public-private partnership model. It provides Sesame Workshop with the critical funding it needs to continue production of ‘Sesame Street’ and secure its non-profit mission of helping kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder.”
HBO Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler and HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said in a statement that the network is “[A]bsolutely thrilled to help secure the future of ‘Sesame Street’ and Sesame Workshop’s mission. … ‘Sesame Street’ is the most important preschool education program in the history of television. We are delighted to be a home for this extraordinary show and helping [it] expand and build its franchise.”
So what does this mean?
It almost certainly means that HBO, reaching about 36 million U.S. households via TV, has noticed how its rising competitors, such as Netflix and Amazon, are rapidly adding children’s programming to the adult-oriented original programs they offer their streaming customers. In its characteristic way, HBO seems to have gone for the most A-list, respected name in children’s programming. The network has added a number of ways to access its content via on-demand services and a new streaming service, HBO Now, that allows customers to get HBO without having to also pay for cable or satellite service.

Why did you decide that that Darius had to die?
People don’t just go in and solve the problem and everybody’s happy and they go home and the good guys win and the bad guys lose and that’s that. For me, anyway, it felt right that at the moment that I loved Darius the most, when he was at his most heroic and was closest to John, and where I think John felt that way as well, where he realized, this guy isn’t who I thought he was. He’s an ally. He’s all of these things. At the moment where John is realizing that, he loses him, and that felt right to me in terms of giving the victory at the end a cost in some real dramatic way. That said though, I thought the crew was going to kill me because everybody loves Chris Chalk so much. I was in the makeup trailer and they were like, "What are you doing? No!"
Obviously, that was a huge twist about Holden. How long did you know that things would play out that way? How did you decide on that twist?
That we really knew from the beginning. A lot of it came out of the theme of the season – this idea that John goes into a situation that looks very much like one thing; that he thinks he has his head around and then realizes that the causes of this thing go much deeper. In a lot of ways, he was wrong about his initial diagnosis of this problem. So in playing out the analogy between this situation and the disease, we thought of this season almost like it’s a very long version of a medical show played out in Atlanta. The source of this problem not only isn’t what I thought it was, it actually comes from my world, the world that I come from and that I associate myself with. The source of this problem is not over there. It’s over here with the stuff that I know.

Simses, will play Dr. Julie Mintz, a naive, ever optimistic young resident at the HMO. Mintz’s romantic worldview and desire to play by the rules are often at odds with the more realistic opinions of her colleagues. Simses guest-starred in the role in the pilot.
