A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.
DOMINION, "Reap of the Whirlwind", August 13, 2015, Actors: Kim Engelbrecht and more, The Scene: Noma's sacrifice
Justyna K: That was such a horrifying view, yet so powerful and meaningful that I couldn't have chosen a different scene. Noma's loyalty to Alex, the way she cares about him, is far stronger than I imagined. Her desperation, when Julian was destroying the markings on Alex's back, said it all. The decision to sacrifice her wings in order to save Alex will certainly change everything for Noma. Even if she survives, despite the pain and her wounds, I think she might become mortal, like a fallen angel turning into almost human. The actress' performance in the scene was truly brilliant. As if the sacrifice itself wasn't enough, it's also Gabriel's behavior that surprised me in the moment. He actually seemed to care, first when Alex was being attacked and the markings were disappearing and when Noma sacrificed her wings. At the end of the scene, he's the one screaming to the two to run away, find Michael and leave safely. It surely makes his character a more interesting and complex one than before. After such an intense episode, I can't wait to see what's next. Kudos!
KILLJOYS, "Enemy Khlyen", August 14, 2014, Actors: Hannah John-Kamen, Aaron Ashmore, The Scene: Dutch and Johnny talk about the night they met and Khylen
Justyna K: I absolutely adore the friendship or rather brother-sister relationship between these two. They're much stronger together so I was really glad they got to spend more time with each other in this week's episode. My most memorable moment has to be the part where they can't sleep and talk about the good memories Dutch has about Khylen, the impact he had on her and finally, the first time John and Dutch met. There were a few funny notes in the scene, but mostly it was a perfect way for Johnny to let Dutch know he's got her back, ever since the first night they met. It's lovely to see how well he knows her, her name, her story and how, despite everything Khylen taught her, she's still very much her own person and she doesn't owe her "surrogate father" anything. Beautiful, emotional exchange between the two, great acting and the meaning behind it all make this one of my choices for scene of the week. Kudos!
MASTERS OF SEX, "Matters of Gravity", August 9, 2015, Actors: Michael Sheen, Blake Morgan Ferris and more, The Scenes: Bill Masters confronts Dennis Daughtry & Bill answers the question from Dr. Farborough
Jimmy Ryan: Bill Masters confronts Dennis Daughtry about him bullying his son at school. This was a scene that was stunningly well performed by Michael Sheen and guest actor who played Dennis, Blake Morgan Ferris. It was a scene that expressed a side of Bill that we rarely see, as he talked down to Dennis about how he was messing with the son of a doctor, who everyone believes and trusts, as opposed to the son of a plumber. And Bill answers the question from Dr. Farborough, pertaining as to why his book on human sexuality doesn't mention love in its contents. This was an outstanding piece of acting once again by Michael Sheen, and the answer he gave was beautifully written. You'll see his words in this week's Quote of the Week.
MR. ROBOT, "eps1.7_wh1ter0se.m4v", August 12, 2015, Actors: Carly Chaikin and more
The Scene: The final reveal
Jimmy Ryan: One of the final scenes in the hour where Darlene revealed to the audience that she was Elliot's sister, and that Mr. Robot may be Elliot's father.
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, "Game Over, Charles", August 11, 2015, Actors: Vanessa Ray and more, The Scenes: The A is revealed & The time jump
Ben L: The A is finally revealed and the time jump on where the girls are five years later.
Jamie Coudeville: I'm so glad that A has finally been revealed and that that chapter had been closed. I'm very curious to see what this new chapter will bring.
RECTIFY, "The Source", August 13, 2015, Actor: Aden Young
The Scene: Daniel attempts to start a new life
Ben L: The end scene with Daniel attempting to start a new life. What a great finale!
SUITS, "Mea Culpa", August 12, 2015, Actors: Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, The Scene: Harvey and Mike rejoice about Mike's partnership vote
Laura Markus: Knowing Suits, this happiness the characters are feeling won't last long. However, this scene between Mike and Harvey was too cute. Harvey told Mike that an army couldn't keep him away from his partnership vote, and that Mike deserves this more than anyone. He also wishes it was him who got him this promotion. Alas, it was still exactly what I needed, and what this episode needed. Also picked by Ben L
THE LAST SHIP, "Uneasy Lies the Head", August 9, 2015, Actors: Rhona Mitra, Ebon Moss-Bachrach
The Scene: Dr. Scott ushers Niels off this mortal coil
Prpleight J: I can't remember a time that I have been more satisfied with seeing a villainous character get his just desserts.
TRUE DETECTIVE, "Omega Station", August 9, 2015, Actors: Colin Farrell and more
The Scene: Ray's death
DarkUFO: Ray is killed in the woods. He records a voice message to his son but the message never goes through.
