Rizzoli and Isles Episode609 – Love Taps
Teleplay by Ron McGee and Dan Hamamura
Story by Dan Hamamura
Directed by Peter B .Kowalski

We start off again with a slower pace this episode. Its all about tying up of loose ends from last week. The focus more on the characters, especially Maura. The crime is a bit of a warning to how much we give away on the internet and to virtual strangers. The big reveal, well we final get to meet Korsak’s flame Kiki, who we have heard so much about.

Nice morning for a hike, it seems but not for one hiker…... as we see him struggle to get back up the rock face pleading with someone for help above. Unfortunately when they step on his fingers we get the feeling they helped him fall in the first place and as he plunges down we see a pair of feet in hiking boots walk off.

Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) is in her kitchen getting ready to start the day when in walks Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) stating Maura is brilliant, a fact we all know, and flinging her jacket about.

A few weeks ago I mentioned I thought Angie Harmon was a rock chick, well seems now the wardrobe department think so too or her love of Cher has gone a step to far. The reason for the jacket is she has taken Maura’s advice and changing her wardrobe. We all are wearing the same look Maura is. Maura’s phone keeps ringing and she tells Jane it’s her father, she needs to sort out some paperwork for the Isles trust. Jane takes matters in to her own hands picking up Maura’s phone and arranging for them to meet so they can talk it out. Maura takes the phone away; Jane feels she needs to confront him with how she feels. Maura throws back at Jane that she never tells anyone how she feels. However Jane won’t drop it as she knows it how upset Maura has been.

The phone rings they answer but carry on talking.

Jane: “Do you want to borrow my Jacket, if you put it on you can go like this” (Flings the tassels about) “makes you feel incredible like you can do anything”
Maura: “Like shoot targets while riding a horse”
Jane “Yes and solve crimes”

Jane remembers she is on the phone and we head into the opening titles.

Jane is still trying to encourage Maura to speak to her father when we arrive at the crime scene, they are meet by Korsak as Maura leaves to examine the body… he knows Jane is messing with Maura. Great way to prove a point and have some fun Jane.

As they head over we learn the victim was a student at Boston state university looks like he fell from the rocks. The victim, Stuart Crane only had his student id and keys on him. Frankie Rizzoli (Jordan Bridges) joins them and explains it looks like he tried to climb back up and slipped. Maura, checking the victim out notices the head wounds are two similar to be from a fall and the victim has broken fingers.

Korsak and Frankie interview the victim’s roommate who clearly knows nothing. They discover a limited edition Don Juan and his phone and wallet so clearly he wasn't robbed.

In the morgue Maura tells Jane someone stepped on the victim’s fingers… that’s surely isn’t Dr Isles guessing… of course not just science and Maura showing off more of her toys to Jane.
The damage was done by a hiking boot. Seems he was hit, fell was hit again and then to finish him off stepped on his fingers so he would fall. This person wanted him dead that’s for sure.

Jane goes upstairs and we see Frankie and Nina Holiday (Idara Victor) looking over a phone and counting, seems the victim had 32 girlfriends. Yep he was a regular Don Juan!
In the BRIC they look over the messages, seems one guy wasn't very pleased about the fact the victim was texting his wife.

Jane and Korsak visit his home, he and wife are sat at the table and she looks very sheepish as he spouts on about some guy texting his wife. His wife Heather felt neglected by her husband but says her husband couldn't have killed him as Donavan (Stuart’s cyber boyfriend alias) is an app. So there is an app for the perfect boyfriend as well… who knew.

Back in the BRIC Jane checked the husband’s alibi he was at work during the time of the murder. Nina is checking the other texts for anything suspicious and signing up for the app to see if there are any flaws. Seems the app is called the perfect mate, the victim was employed there for six months and Nina has tracked down the owners. They said he was a model employee.
Nina ends up with her own perfect boyfriend, a cowboy named Winston.

Korsak speaks to the victim’s sister, seems her brother worked for the money for college but he hadn’t been paid by the company for the past few weeks.

Maura meets up with her father Dr A Isles (David Odgen Stiers). At first Maura tries to keep it all business but her father wants to talk. Maura doesn’t know who to talk to her father ever since she was 14 (remember from last week she discovered him and a neighbour). Her father admits he made a terrible mistake but Maura’s mother and he got past it. Seems Maura can’t get past it because they never talked about it .She never told her mother she knew or spoke to her about it either. Her father had no idea. Maura was off to boarding school (ok but still very sketchy here about when). Maura is angry with him; she carried his secret all these years. They were apart and it never was discussed, it’s very sad. Her father wishes he could change things, he misses Maura. She admits she missed him too but she got over it. She leaves saying she will let him know when the papers are signed.

Korsak and Frankie go to speak to the ‘perfect mate’ app owners. Seems they have had some financial problems. We learn that the victim Stuart’s real identity is kept secret and they had a few clients he reported and all the conversations are kept on the servers. The owners were at work and have CCTV to prove it so doesn't seem to be them.

We can guess Maura called Jane as she comes down to her office. Maura thought she would feel different as though the burden had been lifted but she doesn’t. Jane says maybe it has and wants to see if she still breaks out in hives when she lies.
Jane: “Lie to me”
Maura: “I really like your new jacket, fringe has always been one of my favourites”
Maura has no hives Jane gets a call and has to leave saying Maura should keep practising lying she also admits to messing with Maura about the jacket, she isn't keeping it. She leaves and Maura is left alone.
Maura: “Jane I love it when you play pranks on me"
No hives Maura is getting good at this.

Korsak is talking to Angela Rizzoli (Lorraine Bracco) at the bar, seems he and Kiki had a disagreement their first fight. Korsaks feelings where hurt when she did not ask him to accompany her to a wedding.
As they are talking Kiki appears , Kiki (Christina Chang) sits down and she felt Korsak wanted to take things slow and that’s why she didn't ask him, also she hasn’t meet his friends .( We first heard about Kiki back in season 5 as Korsaks life coach and then the dynamic changed towards the later part of the season.)

Korsak talks to Jane back at BPD about what's she is doing tonight, we learn Jane doesn't like living with Frankie. Jane is pleased she is going to finally meet Kiki.
They head into the BRIC to Nina and Frankie (still waiting for something to happen between these two, come on Frankie the girls needs more than a virtual boyfriend.) they have found something when looking for info . Two of the victim’s clients have been burglarised and on further checks, 27 burglaries have been reported by ‘perfect mate’ clients. Not all with the same virtual boyfriend looks like it may be someone in the company with access. Jane uses Nina’s cowboy virtual boyfriend to set up a burglary as maybe they had something to do with the victim’s death.

They catch him, the burglar but he seems shocked when he hears about Stuart’s death and lawyers up when he realises he could be trouble.

Maura is at the Dirty Robber and meets with her father while Angela looks on. She hands him the papers, he apologises again and invites Maura to attend a friends Anthropology lecture with him ,it’s something they used to enjoy doing. Maura declines and wishes him a safe trip. It’s clear her father is trying to build some bridges.
Angela comes over and offers some good advice. Parents aren't perfect she is not excusing what he did, she tells Maura to let go of all the pain and anger she has. Maura is not sure how she can and Angela tells her baby steps.
I admit I loved this scene Angela has always been motherly towards Maura and quick to jump in when she is hurt as she sees how fragile Maura really is.

Maura defends Angela to Jane when they are talking at the precinct, Maura tells Jane she has found nothing to attach the thief who robbed the clients to the murder.
Nina, who has been doing a hunt for Stuart’s personal cell phone interrupts then as it has shown up with some interesting pictures online. It’s in what appears to be a skate park. Seems his images automatically loaded to his cloud account. Maura identifies where the pictures are taken by a plant she sees, telling Jane if she went hiking she would know this , they start bickering when Nina interrupts and the three, in a new take on Charlie’s angels, head out to get the phone.

Seems there are some skaters at a derelict building site, one must have the phone. Jane asks the skaters but while asking Maura calls Jane over seems the skater took a selfie. He tries to run but Nina take him down, I agree with Jane, Holiday is a bad ass!

Korsak says the Burglar is still in with his lawyer as he and Frankie walk down to interview the skater. Korsak asks Frankie to join them to meet Kiki and is worried and its one of the best relationships he has had. Frankie really isn't someone I would get o for relationship advice!!!!

Jane interviewed the skater and tells korsak he found the phone on the trail, seems they have two thieves and no killer.

Nina has gone through Stuart’s personal phone, seems he had gotten texts from Heather Mathews ( the wife at the beginning whos hubby neglected her ) seems she is a bit over the top and has had social media accounts closed for inappropriate and abusive conduct. Seems she was stalking the victim and may have been the one who brought him the book. Her texts to him stopped the day before he died. Korsak comes in seems the burglar also sold personal information to clients about their ‘Perfect mates’. One was Heather……..

They go off to get her but when Jane, Korsak and Frankie arrive she has poured petrol over her hubby and was about to light it. A great catch by Korsak saves the husband and we clearly see Heather losing it. Another woman scorned story, she couldn't take the rejection from the app boyfriend and now her hubby.

Jane goes to see Maura, the fringe jacket is back on much to Maura’s displeasure. Seems Jane got gasoline on her other jacket. Jane can’t resist flinging the fringe. Maura needs to talk to Jane, as we all know events in our lives change us and for Maura she accepts it has made her who is. If it wasn't for Jane and her family she would be sitting home reading medical journals on a Friday night when in fact now she is going out with friends. Aw Maura... Jane is touched but then to make Maura smile she starts flinging the fringe again and from what I am told some improvisation by Angie Harmon is probably the reason Maura, (Sasha alexander) can't keep it together. We are laughing as well.

At the robber the gang meet Kiki and its clear they like her but Maura makes her excuses and leaves looking back on the group as she walks out the door.

Maura shows up outside the lecture and meets her father they go in together discussing dialects and you know she is starting to build the bridge between them.

This episode, like I mentioned at the beginning, was more focused on the personal side. We have some closure for Maura and finally we meet Kiki who we know has become very important to Korsak. The crime was solved in the last few minutes and not central in the episode. It shows though with the robbery and murder, at times how we can make ourselves very vulnerable online.

So thoughts on this weeks episode ? Do you want a jacket like Janes?
