Proof - Reborn - Review

AL Proof ReviewsIt’s hard to enjoy a show when you start noticing holes in the plot. Sadly, this happened a few times in this episode of Proof. We’re eight episodes in and so far there have been some episodes that I really loved and episodes that I’ve really not cared for. This one, entitled Reborn was just okay. The case was interesting and I like the idea of them trying to discover if this little boy was a reincarnation of another boy who had died several years back. I have always found that idea interesting but what they were saying reincarnation was, isn’t exactly how I thought reincarnation worked. Please note, I’m not an expert on that subject! That’s just one component of this episode that I had a hard time with. The other was how Carolyn was sharing information about her patient to this woman, Deborah whom I perceived as a little unstable. Yes, she thought that boy was her son and she had reasons to believe this but I just couldn’t wrap my head around how Carolyn just let her hangout at the hospital and shared confidential information with her.
Now that I got my dislikes out of the way, I will tell you what I did enjoy about this episode. I was happy to see Ivan back, even though he wasn’t in it much. He seemed very different in this episode. It appeared that he was getting weaker and maybe suffering more than he likes to let on. No mention of his upcoming surgery in the this episode leads me to think that that storyline might be saved for the finale episode. That would make a good cliffhanger but where the show hasn’t been picked up yet for a second season it would be a shame not to see how things turn out for him. It was during his storyline that we get to see just how loyal Janel is to him and that was great. I loved seeing that she wasn't going to be bossed around by Ivan's sister. That certainly made me like Janel more.
We finally get some answers about the woman in the green scarf. It wasn’t that big of a surprise though as must of us were guessing that she had something to do with life after death. It is very curious what she meant by “they" telling her not to talk to Carolyn. Who’s "they"? Any guesses anyone? It was also interesting when she threatens Carolyn and tells her that what she’s trying to discover something that isn’t meant to be known. Before this happens Carolyn had told Zed that she had quit. She's not going to be looking into NDE’s anymore. She’s called wolf on that one, one too many times for me to believe her. Having this woman come to her seems to have the opposite effect, instead of her stopping the research she’s peaked Carolyn's interest even more.
Peter Van Owen was back in this episode as well and he had a great scene with Carolyn. So far we haven’t gotten to see much about him. He seems to have a very sinister way about him but in this episode we got a glimpse of him confiding in Carolyn which surprised Carolyn and myself. Admitting that he isn’t certain about the afterlife and he has so much pressure on him that he has to fake the interactions he has with his clients was a very interesting character development. Maybe most of you thought that he was a fake but I was on the fence. This information was news to Carolyn and possibly made her rethink if she really believed in life after death.
This show continues to leave me with more questions then answers. Hopefully in the end we’ll get some actual answers. What did you think about Proof Reborn?
